Job Summary:

The Payroll Manager role is a hands-on role that will oversee and supervise the organization's payroll functions, ensuring pay is processed on time, accurately, and in compliance with federal and multistate regulations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Implements, maintains, and reviews payroll processes and procedures to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions, including earnings, deductions, taxes, and garnishments
  • Works closely with Human Resources to ensure policy and tax compliance within payroll, the timekeeping system, and the benefits administration system
  • Updates and maintains weekly and monthly employee benefit deduction amounts in the payroll system from information obtained through the benefits administration system
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
  • Researches and promptly resolve inquiries from employees and managers on all pay-related questions
  • Facilitates audits by providing records and documentation to auditors; ensure timely and favorable resolution of all payroll-related notices and inquiries
  • Proactively manages processes, procedures, and relationships in a high-change, fast-paced environment
  • Provides financial reconciliations and/or support for financial aspects of payroll, including responsibility for posting payroll entries to Netsuite accounting system and reviewing and updating employee labor allocations to ensure correct payroll cost in financial reporting
  • Reviews employee home and work locations to ensure local tax withholding compliance and obtain new tax account registrations, as needed


Minimum Qualifications & Requirements:



  • A strong team player with highly effective interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills, with high level of attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Hands-on manager with strong leadership skills with ability to back up all functions within payroll
  • Proficiency in all MS Office applications, especially Excel (must be proficient with pivot tables and vlookups
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Human Resources, or related field preferred
  • 5+ years of progressively responsible experience with payroll functions preferred
  • Experience with UKG, Ultimate Software, and/or Kronos is a plus
  • Canada payroll experience a plus
  • Multi-state tax experience required
  • Accounting system journal entry experience required
