Job Description:

The Associate System Engineer invests in our Purpose by supporting the Field Services Critical Facilities team that is responsible for maintaining the IT communications rooms at our Corporate Campus and throughout airports. This Engineer evaluates, develops, customizes, installs, and implements functionally appropriate, technically sound, and well-integrated systems per Customer requirements, and organizational methodologies and standards. Additionally, they'll partner with vendors to respond to production problems and implement immediate resolution efforts across technology areas. The System Engineer is a strategic problem-solver who is decisive, innovative, and eager to support impactful initiatives to drive the future of Southwest.

Additional Details:

  • This role is offered as a remote workplace position, which may require travel for training, meetings, conferences, etc. Outside of those required visits, the majority of your working time may be spent in a remote location, away from our Corporate Campus. Please note, while this is a remote position, there is a limited group of states or localities ineligible for Employees to regularly perform their work. Those ineligible locations are: Alaska, California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, Washington, Wyoming, and Puerto Rico.

Responsibilities
  • Work with team to research problems, plan solutions, recommend software and systems, and coordinate developments in an orderly manner to meet business requirements
  • Monitor and test performance and capacity for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with partners to implement fixes
  • Ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability and resolve escalations of simple to medium complexity
  • Assist in the implementation and updates to the platform strategy and road map
  • Maintain awareness of technology trends in area of responsibility
  • Meet commitments and deliverables as related to participating on projects
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware, software, or other network and system problems, and replace defective components when necessary
  • Provide technical guidance or support for the development or troubleshooting of systems
  • Review test strategies and quality standards with the Engineers on the Team
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems of simple to medium complexity
  • Ability to understand the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making
  • Basic knowledge of hardware components, systems, software, and networking technologies
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, solution development, and implementation within specific technology areas
  • Skilled in basic partnering, negotiation, and communication in working with Business Customers and Technology support
  • Knowledge of systems development methodologies, practices, concepts, and technologies obtained through formal training and/or work experience
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
  • Ability to develop, present, and communicate ideas and strategies in both technical and user friendly language to small to medium audiences
  • Skilled in project management and analytical/creative problem-solving
  • Skilled in written, oral and interpersonal communication
Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED
  • Required: Bachelor's Degree in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems, or related field; or equivalent formal training
Experience
  • Required: Entry level experience, developing skills and knowledge in system engineering

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from [limited space work station/desk/office area] for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job
Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines

Pay & Benefits

Competitive market salary from $92,640 per year to $94,570 per year* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
