About the Department and/or College

Texas Tech University Libraries serve as a vital partner with students and faculty in their learning endeavors. The University Libraries' system comprises: (1) University Library, (2) Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library,(3) Architecture Library, and (4) Peters Family Legacy Library within the Student Enrichment Center. The University Library is a patent and trademark depository and is one of two regional depositories for U.S. government documents in Texas. The central focus of the Texas Tech University Libraries is to make available 3.72 million physical volumes, electronic resources, special collections and archives, and to offer services to students and faculty that enable academic and research success.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Supervises, trains, and conducts performance evaluations of Access Services staff.
  • Provides leadership, management, planning, and ensuring the effective and efficient operation for all aspects of Access Services, including writing procedural manuals and documentation.
  • Provides the example for maintaining and promoting excellent customer service, continuously evaluating and revising (when necessary) the procedures to improve workflow and customer service.
  • Responsible for the safety of Libraries' users and staff and security of the University Libraries' building. Position assures that all problems/incidents are reported to the Access & User Services Librarian, Associate Dean for User Centered Services, Dean of Libraries, and TTU Police (when appropriate).
  • Responsible for developing and updating safety & security procedures for Access Services.
  • Assists in developing safety & security policies, managing safety & security instruction and communications to the Libraries.
  • Manages all updates to the public websites and the SharePoint website for Access Services.
  • Manages all updates for the hours of the main library on LibCal and Alma.
  • Manages accurate collection of Circulation related statistics - gate count, billing, TexShare, LibCal, Occuspace, etc.
  • Keeps up-to-date on upgrades and changes in Circulation related computer/database systems and manages the staff training for testing and in the functionality of the systems.
  • Updates, provides, reports, shares ideas/solutions about assigned areas and meets with supervisor.
  • Responsible for the Firetrol system cameras, assisting TTU Police with requests for footage records.
  • Submits daily Game Plans and End of Day Reports.
  • Keeps up to date on best practices in Access Services through attendance at trainings, conferences, and other professional development.
  • Serves as one of the Libraries' Campus Security Authorities (CSA).

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree plus three years supervisory experience; OR a combination of education and/or supervisory experience to equal seven years.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous library experience.
  • Previous management and/or supervisory experience in a higher education setting.
  • Familiarity with SpringShare LibApps.
  • Experience using Banner.
  • Experience with Integrated Library Systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively to solve problems.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
