Position Summary
LHB is seeking a detail-oriented and results-driven Controller to oversee the company's accounting and financial operations, including financial reporting, budget management, and financial risk management. This role is crucial for ensuring the integrity of financial information and compliance with regulatory standards. The Controller will report to the COO and collaborate closely with the leadership team to support the strategic goals of our architecture, engineering, and planning firm. This hybrid position may be based in either our Duluth or Minneapolis office. LHB proudly works both in our communities and throughout the country. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervise, mentor and develop the finance and accounting team of six professionals, demonstrating LHB's Core Values and promoting a culture of accountability and continuous improvement
- Develop and manage financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial statements
- Oversee the preparation and analysis of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports and statements
- Manage the accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and tax compliance
- Prepare quarterly tax projections, and work with consultant on annual federal/state returns
- Strong knowledge of accrual accounting and US GAAP
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies and procedures
- Coordinate and manage external audits, including preparation of audit schedules and consulting with auditors
- Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support business decisions at the request of senior management
- Oversee cash flow management, ensuring adequate liquidity for operations and investment activities
- Develop and implement improvements to LHB's financial process
- Develop financial literacy across the firm through periodic presentations and training
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment and support for financial initiatives
- Maintain a strong relationship with banks, auditors, and other financial institutions

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, including a minimum of 3 years supervisory or management experience
- Experience with financial reporting and analysis, budgeting, and forecasting
- Proficient in accounting software and financial management systems (e.g., ERP systems)
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and other financial analysis tools
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA or master's degree in a related field
- 3+ years of experience as a Controller
- Experience in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) industry.
Salary range
- This position s anticipated base salary range is $120,000 - $165,000 annually. This position is eligible for year-end and profit-sharing bonuses. Offer will be determined based on the selected candidate s experience, knowledge, skill, and abilities, as well as internal equity among our current team.
