Duties: Supervise a 5160 head Sow Farm and related personnel, including the following: maintain high herd health and bio-security personally or through employees; manage the research and control animal selection and breeding practices to increase production efficiency and improve animal quality; develop improved practices in feeding, housing, sanitation, or parasite and disease control animals; maintain the alarm system and all emergency systems; answer all alarm calls in a prompt and proper way; provide and monitor proper animal comfort with ventilation and heating management; give timely medication and care of sick or injure swine by approved medication and vaccination program with the guidance and assistance of the Veterinary Services Department; facility maintenance following bio-security procedures ; clean and disinfect buildings according to schedule; follow proper load in, load out procedures and dispose of dead animal daily; follow Bio-security downtime chart and shower before entering units; provide for personnel management by providing leadership and coaching to all employees that report to this area; schedule and plan weekly activities; communicate the daily schedule and plans to the employees at the start of every work day; tour, coach and follow up with personnel daily; allow for personal administrative time for doing paperwork, planning and production analysis; manage and record employee hours, time cards, attendance, vacation, holidays, sick leave records, and notify supervisor for any concerns; assure production task, company policies and regulations are adhered to as outlined in training/procedure manuals; adhere to all safety procedures and utilizing equipment provided for employee protection; provide for farm management by completing weekly production reports; assure the employees complete all records accurately and legibly on daily basis, and turn them into the office daily; turn in complete and accurate time cards by biweekly deadlines; maintain a reasonable inventory of necessary supplies, and account for inventory changes; call in feed orders and animal movement at proper designated times; follow proper withdraw times on all cull sales; provide for resource management by monitoring and maintaining lagoon levels within acceptable guidelines; conserve fresh water whenever possible and conserve electrical and gas usage; maintain vehicles in good operating condition and notify problems to the Production Manager; and maintain proper department and farm appearance by overseeing maintenance, cleanliness, and sanitation of operations. Submits daily and weekly production reports to the Production Manager. Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal Science or Husbandry, or related field, plus two years of related swine experience. Experience must include at least one year of management duties in a swine farm of at least 1200 head, and experience following detailed standard operating procedures. Must have experience managing four or more animal caretakers for sow farms. Must have good communication skills in English. |
