Job Description

Performs respiratory therapy as prescribed by a physician for the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and illness. Sets up, operates and maintains respiratory equipment.

Job Responsibility




  • * Ensures accurate and complete Physician prescription. Compares prescription requests with medical record order form and ensures information is complete. Clarifies any discrepancies with Physician.
  • * Provides patient/significant other with respiratory education. Explains treatment, tests and equipment uses.
  • * Provides prescribed respiratory therapy including: airway maintenance, emergency care, pulmonary function testing, cardio-respiratory rehabilitation and cardio-respiratory drug administration. Performs bedside vital capacity, inspiratory force peak flow measurements; administers various oxygen concentrations, aerosol medication devices and mechanical ventilators; supervises oxygen supported ambulation; performs chest physical therapy (cupping and coughing); provides and monitors mechanical ventilators on assigned unit; responds to Cardiac Team and STAT situations; performs oral suction, nasotracheal and tracheobroncial suction; performs with endotrachael intubation and airway maintenance.
  • Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification




  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • AAS Degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent, required.
  • Current NYS Respiratory Therapist license, required.
  • Registration from the National Board of Respiratory Care, required.
