Position Summary
The primary responsibilities of the Academic Advisor in the Exploratory Center are to meet with assigned students either in person or virtually, provide each student with accurate information about the student's intended degree program, make recommendations about course selection for upcoming semesters, generate advising forms detailing these recommendations, and maintain notes about these meetings. Advisors maintain consistent contact with their students, maintain accurate student records and respond in a timely manner to questions from their students.

Advisors assist students with referrals to other units at UGA, including tutoring, services, and other forms of academic assistance. Advisors are expected to have full knowledge of resources that support students in areas other than their academic life and to refer students to appropriate individuals and offices as needed. This Senior Advisor position is required to perform a combination of the following duties, based on the business needs of the office: advisement of a combined roster of Intended Business, Intended Grady, or Undecided/Exploring students; office level administrative tasks; office representation through liaison work with campus partners; advisor training and professional development leadership; and supplemental administrative tasks for new student orientation programming and advising.

Regular attendance at weekly staff meetings is mandatory and workshop attendance is also an expected part of the position. Advisors should be available to work at new student orientation sessions from May through August, as well as those conducted in December and January.

Advising Students:
Meet with Intended major students, or Undecided/Exploring students as needed, in person or virtually to recommend courses for the next semester, prepare advising forms, answer student questions, maintain thorough advising notes about appointments and other contact with students, and direct students to appropriate resources on campus. This involves extensive prep time and proficiency with various campus systems, software and resources. Demonstrate a perspective that genuinely appreciates, understands, supports and effectively accommodates individuals with a wide range of professional and academic experiences.

Answer student and staff emails, and maintain accurate records of student appointments, referrals, and academic progress. Work on administrative tasks, as assigned, in areas that may include but are not limited to: campus partner liaison work, advisor training and advisor training material creation; new student orientation administration and programming; advising roster management. A high level of independent work is expected.
