Job Overview & Essential Functions

Murphy-Hoffman Company, LLC is North America's largest Kenworth truck dealership group and leasing group. As MHC continues to grow, we have an opening for an Assistant Service Manager. The Assistant Service Manager is to assist the Service Manager in the day-to-day operations of the Branch's Maintenance Department in compliance with established policies and procedures. Plans, organizes, leads and controls the activities of the Maintenance Department to ensure the overall growth and profit objectives are met. Evaluates the department's results and performance against objectives. Maintains the highest quality standards of professionalism in serving the customer and identifying their needs.

  • Assists the Service Manager in assessing present and future needs, trends, problems and profit opportunities of the Maintenance Department. Analyzes results in key areas such as tire management, parts pricing, and preventative maintenance. Makes recommendations for improvements based on that analysis.
  • Ensures that approved policies and objectives are clearly understood and effectively communicated within the department. Manages programs such as Safety, QA Compliance and Inventory.
  • Maintains appropriate communication within and between all departments within the branch. Provides support to the sales force in the areas of truck spec's, customer fleet analysis, and maintenance practices.
  • Is familiar with the activities of competition, market conditions and department operation; keeps the Service Manager informed.
  • Coordinates the processing of Warranty Claims with the Warranty Department Expedites the accurate processing of warranty claims through strict compliance to guidelines set forth in the work instructions.
  • Provides daily supervision of Foremen and Leadmen and manages day to day shop operations when so assigned by the Service Manager
  • Works with the Service Manager concerning customer issues. Manages the road breakdown and major repair recording programs and works to expedite returning units to service following repairs.
  • Monitors RO's on a daily basis and gives instruction as to the closing of repair orders. Provides support to technicians and coordinates with sublet vendors to obtain days-to-post standards.
  • Manages the training of the maintenance department. Schedules, and coordinates formal and informal technician training and ensures the branch maintains adequate numbers of certified technicians.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Previous experience in service department maintenance/management preferred.
