Postdoctoral Fellow, Cell & Tissue Genomics, Riggi & Murrow Lab

Genentech
United States, California, South San Francisco
May 30, 2025
The Position

A healthier future. It's what drives us to innovate. To continuously advance science and ensure everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love. That's what makes us Genentech.

We are looking for a highly motivated researcher, who is passionate about making scientific discoveries that have the potential to impact human health, for a joint Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Riggi and Murrow labs within the Department of Cellular and Tissue Genomics (CTG) at Genentech. This Postdoctoral Fellow will lead projects that will advance our understanding on the role of distinct cellular states and tumor microenvironments in cancer, with a particular emphasis on metastatic breast cancer and tumor-microenvironment communication. The project will be in close collaboration with groups in Translational Medicine, breast cancer experts across Genentech, and the Spatial Omics (McGinnis lab) in Pathology.

The successful applicant will have an opportunity to work with multiple groups with expertise spanning scientific disciplines and approaches, including oncology, single-cell biology, spatial transcriptomics, high-throughput functional screens, and computational biology. They will deploy single cell genomics and spatial transcriptomics approaches to uncover new tumor-TME communication patterns, deploy therapeutic strategies that modulate the crosstalk between tumor and immune cells, and develop new image-based screening technologies to identify targets that mediate clinically-relevant cell-cell interactions.

The applicant will also have access to our cutting-edge research campus, equipped with the most advanced biomedical, experimental, and computational technologies. Scientific insights resulting from this research are expected to be presented at scientific conferences and published in high impact journals. Opportunities for the clinical translation of new discoveries are also in place.

The Opportunity:

  • Lead the experimental and computational direction of projects in collaboration with wet- and dry-lab colleagues to move projects forward.

  • Initiate and foster intra- and inter-departmental collaborations that will streamline and accelerate the development of the projects.

  • Share research through scientific publications, national and international conferences, and internal presentations.

Who You Are:

  • PhD graduate in molecular, cellular, or cancer biology, or a related biological or biomedical science.

  • Have solid technical and computational skills. Experience with mammalian cell lines and lentiviral vectors, -omics technologies (single cell, CRISPR, spatial) and microscopy are highly desired. Expertise in spatial-omic (Xenium) data analyses and interpretation is highly desired. Experience with new technology development is a plus.

  • Be technically rigorous, curious and creative. Show enthusiasm in tackling complex biological problems and developing/applying new technologies.

  • Have advanced at least one key research project as evidenced by a first author paper published or accepted in a respected peer-reviewed journal.

  • Have excellent communication skills and a collaborative and collegial mindset.
