ABOUT THE POSITION

Environmental Project Manager - Site Investigation & Remediation

Location: Hybrid | Bedford, NH | Portland, ME

At VHB, our Site Investigation & Remediation practice is dedicated to delivering comprehensive services that manage and mitigate environmental risks while satisfying regulatory requirements. Serving clients across New Hampshire and Maine, we offer a robust suite of services-including site assessments, subsurface investigations, as well as design and permitting support, which add value and foster sustainable growth. Join us in our mission to clean up the environment and revitalize blighted properties.

VHB has an immediate opening for an Environmental Project Manager to join our expanding Site Investigation & Remediation (SI&R) practice. This is an exciting opportunity for a driven environmental professional who is passionate about solving complex challenges and motivated to help grow our SI&R practice across New Hampshire and Maine. We're seeking someone with a growth mindset -- a proven technical lead who has strong client connections and can build relationships with VHB's existing clients and foster new pursuits in the marketplace. A 65-person SI&R team across VHB's footprint will be available to provide resources and support to the selected candidate as part of this personal and professional growth opportunity. You will collaborate with a dynamic team of professionals from diverse disciplines, fostering innovation and comprehensive solutions for properties whose redevelopment is complicated by the presence of contamination.

Responsibilities

Maintain and grow client relationships while actively contributing to business development and strategic market growth in NH and ME.
  • Manage diverse environmental projects with a focus on site investigation and remediation.
  • Prepare and review technical documents, reports, and project deliverables with a high level of proficiency.
  • Mentor and develop junior staff, including coaching on field procedures such as soil and groundwater sampling and remediation oversight.
  • Lead proposal development, budgeting, and project invoicing.
  • Support the review and preparation of construction-related environmental submittals such as Soil and Groundwater Management Plans.
  • Coordinate the preparation of ASTM Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs).
  • Represent VHB through participation in professional organizations, conferences, and community engagement.
  • Stay current with regulations, emerging technologies, and industry trends.

What You Bring

  • Entrepreneurial spirit and a growth mindset-eager to build new client relationships and expand our visibility in the region.
  • Excellent communication skills, including exceptional writing and the ability to review technical documents with attention to detail.
  • Strong team leadership, adaptability, and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Field and office experience (role is primarily office-based, with occasional field oversight).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Environmental/Civil Engineering, or a related field (Master's a plus).
  • 8-11+ years of professional experience in environmental consulting and site remediation.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER and current 8-hour refresher certification required.
  • PG or PE licensure in New Hampshire preferred. LG licensure in Maine is a plus.
  • In-depth knowledge of NHDES regulations and remediation guidance. Knowledge of MEDEP regulations a plus.
  • Established positive relationships with NHDES and other regulatory agencies strongly preferred.
