Georgia-Pacific Continuous Manufacturing Group is looking for a Converting Engineer. The ideal candidate has demonstrated success in converting paper products through experience in engineering and operations. This individual is primarily responsible for solving the complex problems encountered in the paper product converting industry, enabling manufacturing partners to become competitive in the industry.

This position:

  • Resides in our Converting Technical Center, which is part of the corporate Manufacturing Technical Group.
  • Works closely with operations across GP's North American facilities.
  • Collaborates with multiple groups and disciplines throughout operations to improve asset performance and reliability.
  • Remote/home-based, and although travel will vary, it will typically range from 50-75%.

What You Will Do

  • Support projects through check-outs, start-up, commissioning, operational handoff, and troubleshooting of converting assets.
  • Support commercialization and product portfolio rollouts as a key technical support resource.
  • Build a technical solutions capability through a network of internal and external partners (technical SME, engineering, operations, vendor/OEM)
  • Identify gaps in current technologies & processes and provide solutions to improve efficiencies in the future.
  • Coach and mentor operations by building internal technical skills, capabilities, and efficiencies while improving performance metrics and sustainability of assets.
  • Scale improvements through knowledge sharing across assets/platforms to fully leverage innovation and process improvements.
  • Interact with and learn about platform equipment technologies, applying that knowledge to support the business across various areas.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Ability and desire to support start-up/commissioning and troubleshoot converting equipment for short periods until performance metrics are achieved. This will require travel to different facilities across North America.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering value to the organization in a principled way with and through others in a technical role.
  • Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to identify and resolve equipment runability issues.
  • The capability of working in a flexible, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision and direction.
  • Ability to facilitate and drive resolution to complex equipment problems.
  • Sense of urgency and the ability to engage people positively to move initiatives forward in an expedited timeframe.
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations. Maintain positive approach and be a strong advocate of company driven initiatives.
  • Strong knowledge of maintenance & electrical methods and techniques. Good understanding of preventative/predictive techniques and the application of Root Cause Failure Analysis.
  • Demonstrated team/group facilitation experience - meetings, knowledge sharing, problem solving, etc.

Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)

  • Expertise in converting equipment (unwinds - log saws) as it relates to the manufacturing of tissue, towel & napkins.
  • Knowledge and expertise of design, construction, operations, and maintenance of assets in the converting space.
  • Ability to read schematics and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems and components.
  • Experience evaluating equipment or processes, developing solutions, and delivering results in the form of equipment and or training improvements.
  • Willing and able to travel up to 75% of the time - may include weekend travel.
  • Willing and able to wear the necessary Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
  • Willing and able to work flexible hours to best support projects or assignments.

  • An individual with a strong capability in project management, demonstrating leadership and accountability

For this role, we anticipate paying $ 120,000 to $ 160,000.
