The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides information technology leadership and support to the Georgia Institute of Technology, working in partnership with academic and business units to meet the unique needs of a leading research university. OIT serves as the primary source of enterprise-wide information technology and telecommunications services in support of students, faculty, staff, and researchers.

Job Summary

The Data Engineer designs, builds, and maintains scalable data pipelines and architectures that enable efficient data processing and analysis within the institution. This position works closely with data scientists and analysts to ensure data quality, accessibility, and usability, facilitating data-driven decision-making across various departments.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Design, build, and maintain robust data pipelines to facilitate the efficient collection, storage, and processing of large datasets.

Job Duty 2 -
Implement data integration solutions that combine data from multiple sources to create a unified view for analysis and reporting.

Job Duty 3 -
Optimize data storage and retrieval processes to improve performance and reduce latency in data access.

Job Duty 4 -
Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation of data models, pipelines, and workflows to support knowledge sharing and continuity.

Job Duty 5 -
Monitor data systems for performance and reliability, troubleshooting any issues that arise to minimize disruptions.

Job Duty 6 -
Ensure compliance with data governance policies and best practices to protect sensitive information and maintain data integrity.

Job Duty 7 -
Stay current with industry trends and advancements in data engineering technologies to recommend innovative solutions for data management.

Job Duty 8 -
Train and support staff on data tools and technologies to enhance the institution's overall data literacy and analytical capabilities.

Job Duty 9 -
Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to ensure data quality, accessibility, and usability for various analytical tasks.

Job Duty 10 -
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience. Advanced certification may be preferred or required.

Required Experience
Six or more years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Additional Preferred Qualifications
Amazon Web Services (AWS) Certified Cloud Practitioner, Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL), AWS Certified Data Analytics, Tableau Desktop Specialist, Analyzing Data with Microsoft Power BI.

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's Degree in a related discipline or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience developing and implementing data analysis, data collection systems, learning outcomes, and other strategies to monitor and support student success in online platforms.
Experience monitoring system usage and generating reports and data visualizations for assessment and data-driven decision making.
Experience with Azure including specific data technologies such as Data Factory/Synapse Analytics, Dataflows, PySpark Notebooks, Azure SQL, ADLS, etc.

Preferred Education: Masters degree in Data Science/Analytics, Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or related field.

The budget for this position $117,000

ABILITIES
Proven ability to serve as a senior resource in analyzing, troubleshooting, and resolving complex issue in of large-scale/Information Technology architectures and services. Proven ability to plan, organize, and multi-task in order to meet deadlines, and to coordinate with a diverse population, perform and effectively, make important decisions under pressure, communicate complex technical subjects to non-technical audiences, and effectively manage/direct team.

KNOWLEDGE
Advanced knowledge of platform support or digital learning solutions integration and delivery principles and practices; working knowledge of Digital Asset and Content management and delivery tools; working knowledge supporting massive open online courses and learning management systems environments. Basic knowledge of cloud-based hosting solutions; Basic knowledge of a variety of Web application development technologies and languages, including XML or other markup languages.

SKILLS
Proficient in written and verbal communication, analytical thinking, customer service, organization, problem-solving, and strong attention to detail; proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Preferred: Advanced skills in application development, integration, administration, and service delivery, particularly Web, Digital media, Educational Technology, or Cloud-based applications, services, and capabilities; expert knowledge of multiple operating system environments, including multiple web browsers, and digital media production and playback tools.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Preferred Skills:

Experience in Data Science programming utilizing languages such as Python and applicable packages (Pandas, Numpy, etc.) for use in data cleaning/analysis on large volumes of data,
Experience with large scale event streaming and data integration platforms such as Kafka
Experience with software development Cloud Platforms such as AWS and Azure
Strong experience with SQL and NoSQL databases
Experience with Azure Synapse
Knowledge of Source Code Control Systems such as GitHub
Experience with data storage and manipulation using Cloud-based tools (e.g., RDS, Synapse)
Experience with PowerBI
