UCSF Malaria Elimination Initiative (MEI) - Associate Specialist

Description

The UCSF Malaria Elimination Initiative (MEI) works with malaria endemic countries and global partners to advance malaria policy and practice. We conduct cutting edge operational research, provide direct technical assistance, and build capacity at the subnational, national, and regional levels. We closely collaborate with national malaria programs and local institutions to implement tailored and sustainable strategies aimed at achieving population-level impact on the path to malaria elimination. The Associate Specialist will support this mission by preparing reports, charts, tables, and data visualizations to interpret and communicate key findings.

UCSF Institute for Global Health Sciences (IGHS) is dedicated to improving health and reducing the burden of disease in the world's most vulnerable populations. It integrates UCSF expertise in all of the health, social, and biological sciences, and focuses that expertise on pressing issues in global health. IGHS works with partners in countries throughout the world to achieve these aims. IGHS seeks to improve health worldwide, especially in developing countries, through research that informs policy.

  • Required Qualifications:



    • Master's degree (or equivalent degree) in a related field or minimum five to ten years of experience equivalent combination of experience/training in infectious disease
    • Advanced skills in statistical analysis and interpretation
    • Advanced skills in database design, management, and security
    • Advanced skills in systems programming including but not limited to R, STATA, and SAS
    • Familiarity and comfort with use of REDCap
    • Advanced research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations
    • Advanced project management skills. Ability to lead and influence within and external to project team
    • Advanced ability to think creatively to recommend action steps or strategize solutions relative to research
    • Excellent documentation skills, ability to set priorities, work both independently and collaboratively, excellent follow-up, work well under pressure
    • In-depth knowledge of malaria research function
    • Flexibility and adaptability to adjust to constantly changing priorities
    • Advanced-level technical knowledge of data management and analysis approaches, and the ability to synthesize data findings for a scientific audience
    • Good interpersonal skills for working effectively with individuals from a range of life experiences and backgrounds



  • Preferred Qualifications:



    • Prior experience conducting malaria-related research in an academic setting and with African and Latin American partners.
    • Experience mentoring students in a research environment.




Screening of applicants will begin immediately and will continue as needed throughout the recruitment period. Salary and rank will be commensurate with the applicant's experience and training.

See Table 24B for the salary range for this position. A reasonable estimate for this position is $73,000-$85,000.
