Resident Shelter Monitor

Job Objective: The resident monitor's primary function is to support the health and safety of homeless families with children, residing in shelter, as they work towards permanent housing placement, stability and self-sufficiency.

Essential Functions:



  • Reside full time at The Salvation Army Booth Center


  • Monitor on grounds activities of residents for safety compliance


  • Document and report incidents, injuries, and behavioral concerns to the Social Services Director


  • Respond to after hours and emergency calls from residents and take action to provide for their safety/well-being


  • Clean and make ready empty rooms for new residents and distribute supplies to each resident as needed


  • Document and retain records and logs as assigned


  • Conduct and document monthly emergency evacuation and preparedness drills.


  • Document a monthly facility walk-through of safety equipment


  • Report any equipment or furnishing malfunction or repair needed and submit a work order to the Social Services Director


  • Attend and participate in staff meetings as assigned


  • Participate in additional training and outside conferences/workshops as required by your supervisor and approved by the Corps Officer


  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships



Minimum Qualifications:

Education:



  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; post high school education in social services or related studies preferred



Experience:



  • Two to four years of human services experience preferred; prior experience with homeless populations preferred



Certifications/Licenses: First Aid and CPR certifications required

Skills/Abilities:



  • Maintain residency in Salvation Army apartment at The Booth Center.


  • Ability to comprehend, document, and converse in Standard English.


  • Demonstrate verbal and written communications skills.


  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills.


  • Sound judgment and reasoning ability/skills.


  • Problem solving and conflict resolution skills.


  • Time management skills and ability to handle multiple demands and priorities.


  • Ability to work within a culturally diverse population.


  • Emotionally mature and stable.


  • Ability to provide visual oversight and observation.



Supervisory Responsibility: None

Physical Requirements: Include speaking, hearing and vision ability; manual dexterity; bending, squatting and walking; lifting, pulling and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds; standing up to 4 hours per day; sitting up to 4 hours per day. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job.

Working Conditions: Work is performed during evening, overnight and weekend hours.
