Job Description Summary: |
The Program on Extremism at George Washington University provides analysis on issues related to violent and non-violent extremism. The Program spearheads innovative and thoughtful academic inquiry, producing empirical work that strengthens extremism research as a distinct field of study. The Program aims to develop pragmatic policy solutions that resonate with policymakers, civic leaders, and the general public.
As part of its expansion, the Program on Extremism is seeking to hire a Research Fellow with knowledge on radicalization and Islamism, particularly but not exclusively in the West.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Develops protocols and criteria for the conduct of research
- Oversees and conducts interviews and evaluates the progress of studies at predetermined checkpoints
- Analyzes data, interprets and implements research methodology based on outcome of analysis
- Develops policies and position papers and publishes articles and reports
- Participates in the larger, more complex research projects which require coordination with multiple organizations (national and international)
- Trains staff and delegates tasks
- Serves as project manager on a number of research initiatives

Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline plus 5 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. |

Preferred Qualifications: |
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience in conducting research on non-violent extremism, terrorism, or counter-terrorism is desired.
