The Portlandoffice of SmithGroupis looking for aSpecifications Writerto join our team.

Working with us, you will:
* Work with project teams to write technical specifications for projects in our key markets (Healthcare, Higher Education, Science & Technology, Workplace, Cultural and Urban Design).
* Collaborate with a team of specification writers to ensure quality and delivery of specifications on projects across SmithGroup.
* Lead, participate, or support initiatives to update and manage master specifications across multiple disciplines.
* Create and implement specifications standards, policy, and training of SmithGroup practitioners.
* Provide leadership and advice to all offices in the firm regarding specifications and their relationship to other areas of the practice such as BIM, discipline standards, and Quality Assurance/Quality Control.
* Exhibit an understanding of architectural products and services as well as emerging technologies and architectural services delivery and procurement approaches.
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders, vendors, and consultants to support sustainability integration in the specification of materials.
* Maintain excellent industry/competitor product and process knowledge by reviewing and understanding our markets and competitive activity.
* Adapt to changes in the marketplace and project delivery methods.
* Maintain a work schedule that is required to align with the West Region Pacific time zone business hours.

An ideal candidate has:
* A bachelor's degree in architecture or equivalent, preferred.
* 10 or more years of design and construction industry experience, including 5 or more years as a specifier on commercial projects.
* Professional license in the field of discipline (if applicable), preferred.
* CSI-CCS certification and LEED accreditation are preferred.
* Significant experience in writing specifications for projects of a size and scope appropriate to our key markets preferred. With specific experience in Healthcare and Science & Technology markets preferred.
* Experience with BIM, and other emerging technologies, particularly those technologies and software focusing on integrated practice.
* Knowledge of national and local building codes and standards as they relate to product specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements. Experience and familiarity with the California Building Code (CBC) and the specific requirements of jurisdictions within the state of California.
* Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
* Familiar with database-driven specifications preparation software is a plus.

This position is designed to support our West Region offices including locations in Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, and Portland. Additionally, the role involves firm-wide engagement as part of SmithGroup's core specifications team. For applicants who do not live within a commutable distance of a SmithGroup office, a fully remote work arrangement may be considered

While we may ultimately pay more or less than a posted salary range, at the time of posting the anticipated salary range for this position is $110,000 to $129,000 annually and you are eligible for a performance-based bonus each year.
