The Corporate Information Services Department is seeking a dynamic and talented Application Architect - IS Clinical Sysmtes.

The Application Architect - IS Clinical Systems acts as a key resource that aligns the electronic health record (EHR) design and functionality with clinical operations initiatives. Works collaboratively with IS, clinical operations, and facility level resources to deploy, maintain, and support applications throughout the organization. Acts as a liaison with facilities and other corporate staff for issues involving the clinical areas requiring design considerations and integration between information systems. Leads the design, build, testing, support, maintenance and troubleshooting of assigned software applications and systems.

Serves as a point of contact for physicians and other clinical staff to reference as necessary, including, but not limited to Cerner (Firstnet & PowerChart). Involved in knowledge transfers to Facility IS, committees composed of facility and corporate staff, documentation of process workflow and other functionality regarding the EHR.

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Serves as liaison to facility representatives to investigate and resolve customer service issues
  • Provides leadership in development; establishing ownership and maintaining work teams
  • Collaborates with UHS corporate physicians, Clinical & Departmental teams as well as operations to address specific customer needs and resolve issues from the Acute Division facilities
  • Coaches and mentors team members and acts as a professional role model
  • Contributes to performance evaluation of junior staff members as needed
  • Communicates and provides rationale for decisions to other UHS corporate and facility staff
  • Identifies educational needs and collaborates with education & corporate operations teams to design and implement end user education
  • Provides mechanisms for soliciting ongoing feedback from users and responds and follows-up with concerns in a timely manner
  • Keeps management well informed of activities, needs, problems
  • Develops and maintains communication flows that exceed customer expectations
  • Plans, facilitates, and evaluates improvements to operational workflow and processes in collaboration with corporate operations and facility leadership
  • Maximizes effectiveness of applications by understanding available functionality, options and possible alternatives for software in production
  • Formulates reports, collects and analyzes data to identify trends that improve organizational performance and clinical outcomes
  • Develops and makes recommendations to modify policies and procedures impacted by information systems
  • Maintains a current knowledge of trends and issues in healthcare, Health Information Management (HIM), and Joint Commission standards
  • Articulates how new technology will impact current processes and procedures for the organization
  • Adheres to UHS Project Management standards & Change Control processes

Qualifications

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Eight or more years of HIM, Revenue Cycle and Clinical Information Systems experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of clinical system application design, development, implementation, enhancement, support methods and practices
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of clinical applications analysis, design, build, deployment and modification as well as troubleshooting techniques
  • Ability to work with end users to determine software specifications and process improvement workflows
  • Ability to create system documentation, project plans, test scripts and education materials
  • General familiarity of end user practices, concepts and terminology sufficient to support the clinical applications
  • Language proficiency in English, with excellent written and verbal skills
  • Project management experience preferred
  • Expert user of Medical Records related information systems (preferred Cerner Millennium)
  • Strong analytical and statistical skills and interpretive abilities to make recommendations for improvements or changes
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to resolve complex clinical, people, process and technology issues
  • Ability to act independently and complete projects from beginning to end with minimal supervision
  • Professional demeanor and excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of staff on clinical and information technology matters and on policy and procedural matters

Travel Requirements: 25% domestic US travel (depending on projects).
