Overview:
The Senior Public Relations Manager creates and implements external communication campaigns that support business objectives in key markets in collaboration with leadership team. Self-starter and motivated communicator who is skilled at extracting and telling high-impact stories across multiple platforms. Seeks opportunities to provide support in order to achieve firm values and goals. Highly visible position that requires close partnership with firm sector, design, practice and executive leadership. Manages the firm's resources (people, processes and tools) and assignments with proficiency, fluency and aptitude.
Responsibilities:
- Works across all sectors, practice areas and geographies to promote the firm's people and projects
- Responsible for mentoring junior staff across the MarCom studio, particularly positions with direct touch to the firm's media relations efforts
- Serves as a senior crisis counselor to department and firm leadership
- Works collaboratively with Director of Communications to craft statements (whether responsive or proactive) on issues with potential to adversely impact firm reputation
- Partners with key internal and external stakeholders in Communications, Legal and practice areas to assist in planning for and managing crisis response strategy and execution
- Identifies and executes thought leadership opportunities for select members of senior leadership, such as identifying targeted speaking and panel opportunities, media interviews and initiating membership in organizations with opportunity to advance firm messaging
- Manages media training sessions, including the use of any outside resources, for approved firm spokespeople
- Leverages all available communication channels to execute communication campaigns (conferences, in-office events, media relations, social media, HKS web site, e-marketing, etc.)
- Contributes to social media content and liaises with the Social Media Manager on content strategy for significant/noteworthy media placements
- Collaborates with global MarCom team by partnering with the team of writers, designers, producers and strategists to support communication programs
- Evaluates opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising as needed
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Marketing or related degree
- Typically with 10-15+ years of marketing experience
- Experience in InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator graphic software preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint preferred
- Knowledge of and interest in architecture/interior design, including knowledge of global trends shaping the industry and client's industries
- Fluency in social media
- Successful track record with managing a team and performing duties in a fast-paced environment
- Successful track record of working with top tier design and business press
- Experience in managing agencies or deep experience within agencies working across multiple pieces of business
- Experience in working on global teams and managing global public relations campaigns
- Experience in logistics management including connecting people and resources to the right place at the right time
- Excellent media relations skills and experience with demonstrated high profile placements, including deep understanding of the media landscape
- Excellent writing skills with experience in graphically designed page layouts
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to excellence
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff and customers; ability to forge trusting relationships within a diverse team
- Strong presentation skills
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time
- Ability to manage team with diplomatic and collaborative leadership style which puts value on relationships and collaboration, both internal and external
- Ability to communicate and present ideas in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
- Ability to proactively problem solve and apply innovative solutions
- Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment, and ability to work independently and prioritize work
- Ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality
- Travel may be required
Base Salary Range: $130k - $140k annually - San Francisco location only. The estimate displayed represents the general base salary range of candidates hired in the San Francisco location only.
