About the Job

The University of Minnesota Duluth, Department of Music seeks a versatile and experienced pianist/educator for a one-year full-time term position beginning August 18, 2025. Primary duties of this position include teaching applied piano, piano literature and pedagogy, piano class, collaborative piano, accompanying, other courses as assigned at the undergraduate level, and performing as a collaborative and solo pianist. Also included in the position are outreach/recruiting activities to build enrollment in the piano program at the undergraduate level and working effectively with music colleagues and professional organizations. Service to the Music Department and College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences and University of Minnesota Duluth is also expected.

Qualifications

Instructor
Required Qualifications:

  • A completed Master's degree in Music; a record of success as a teacher of applied piano (minimum two years full time teaching); a record of success as a collaborative pianist; recognition and accomplishment as a professional pianist; and evidence of success working collaboratively with faculty colleagues.

Teaching Assistant
Preferred Qualifications:

  • A completed terminal degree in Music; evidence of success as a teacher of applied piano (minimum three years full time teaching experience at the collegiate level); a record of success as a collaborative pianist (minimum 3 years professional collaborative piano experience including accompanying and vocal coaching); recognition and accomplishment as a professional pianist at the national/international level; and evidence of success working collaboratively with faculty colleagues.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range:

Instructor: $42,796.88-$57,063.00 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience
Teaching Assistant Professor: $48,004.50-$64,006.00 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment Category: 75%-100% Appointment (If job description above does not specify appointment or expected weekly hours, assume a 100% appointment.)
