Description
The Department of Geology and Geography in the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) GIS Analyst (Research Associate). This position will provide GIS and spatial analytical expertise to support the funded projects undertaken at the West Virginia GIS Technical Center and to support the state's geospatial data infrastructure. They will provide spatial analytics and digital cartography support and, alongside other Tech Center staff, will contribute to pursuing, managing, undertaking, and reporting on grants and managing graduate research assistants and student workers. They will contribute to projected focused on flooding, natural hazards, and community resiliency. Duties and Responsibilities
Qualifications
A masters' degree in Geographic Information Systems/Science, Geography, Geology, Environmental Geoscience, or other cognate subject is required. Applicants must have at least one year of work experience in GIS and spatial analytics. Candidates should be knowledgeable of geographic information systems and how these systems are utilized for data management, analysis, and presenting all types of spatial or geographic data. Applicants should be proficient in the following areas: Working with geospatial vector data, raster data, and remotely sensed data, such as imagery and LiDAR, ESRI ArcGIS desktop software (ArcGIS Pro), ESRI ArcGIS Online and web GIS technologies, Cartographic design principles including experience in map and web map design, and GIS for mapping tasks relating to flooding, natural hazards, and community resiliency.
