As a Coating Technician, you will be focused on applying coatings to various manufactured products. These coatings might be protective, decorative, or functional, and are added during different stages of production. Additionally, as a Coating Technician you will be responsible for ensuring product durability, resistance, and compliance with industry standards. Operating within a precise and regulated environment, you must accurately follow formulated procedures and maintain a high standard of safety and cleanliness. This position reports directly to the Department Manager and is supported by the department's Team Lead(s).

Initially, during the startup phase, this position will follow a Monday through Thursday schedule from 3:00 PM to 1:30 AM, with overtime as needed. After the startup phase, the schedule may transition to a 2-3-2 work schedule, providing you with consistent time off while ensuring continuous operations. The schedule works as follows:

For the night shift, there will be C Shift and D Shift:

  • C Shift: 5:00pm - 5:30am (12-hour shifts)
    • Work Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday - 48 Hours (off Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)
  • D Shift: 5:00pm - 5:30am (12-hour shifts)
    • Work Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - 36 Hours (off Monday, Tuesday, Saturday, Sunday)

The schedule alternates weekly:

  • One week, C Shift works the days that D Shift has off, and vice versa.
  • The following week, the shifts flip, with D Shift working the days that C Shift worked the previous week.

This shift is eligible for a $1.75 shift differential.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING(% of Time)

Set up, load, and operate automated coating process equipment, including Dip-spin and E-Coat, for fasteners manufactured in-house. Manage process controls using HMIs and system software to ensure smooth operation. Maintain equipment by performing regular checks and troubleshooting any issues that arise during the coating processes. (60%)

Prepare components for cleaning and the application of pretreatment materials or other preparations required before and during the coating processes. Select, mix, prepare, and adjust the pretreatment and coating materials based on specific job requirements, using materials such as solvents and diluting liquids. Prepare and adjust coatings, process chemicals, coating equipment, curing ovens, and transfer conveyors, ensuring the quality control of finished products. Monitor the application process to ensure even distribution of coatings and adequate curing for conformance to product specifications. Conduct quality assurance tests to verify the thickness, adherence, and consistency of the coatings. Maintain a clean and organized work environment to comply with health and safety regulations. Record process parameters and results accurately in the production logs for quality control purposes. Ensure accurate record-keeping and adherence to safety protocols to contribute to the operational efficiency and compliance of the manufacturing facility. Identify and troubleshoot process or equipment problems to minimize downtime and waste. Train new employees in work procedures with intentional and effective guidance. (40%)

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Safety: Ability to prioritize safety by demonstrating safe work practices and promoting a safe work environment.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • Proven experience as a Coating Operator or in a similar role in manufacturing, preferred.
  • Simpson Strong-Tie Powered Industrial Truck Certification required (will certify).
  • Familiarity with Industrial machinery and chemical handling, preferred.
  • Must understand atmosphere curing furnace fundamentals and operation.
  • Familiar with pre and post process testing such as titrations preferred.
  • Familiar with performing curing furnace preventative maintenance preferred.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Ability to work in hot environments for long periods of time.
  • Forklift experience required.
  • Accountability & Dependability. Able to consistently demonstrate reliable, punctual attendance
  • Mathematical Reasoning: Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to Work Independently: Follow both written and oral instructions, including safety guidelines, work instructions, and company policies.
  • Attendance: Able to consistently demonstrate reliable, punctual attendance in accordance with our attendance policy.
  • Safety is the priority. You will be required to recognize and respond to dangerous situations quickly and safely. Required to lead by example, follow all HSE rules and requirements and always wear required PPE. Working in the Coating Department, an employee will be required to wear a paint respirator to ensure safety and protect against exposure to harmful fumes and chemicals associated with the coating process.
  • Continuously build your skillset to influence decisions and recommend/implement process improvements to grow department throughput while meeting product quality.
  • Communication Skills: Speak in the most effective way to relay information to all departments and at all levels within the organization. Listen and ask questions to ensure understanding.
  • Quality Standards Knowledge: Demonstrate an understanding of company quality standards, attention to detail and company quality control processes.
  • Problem Solving: Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists

  • Results Focus & Initiative: Ability to multitask and take initiative in a challenging, fast-paced environment.
  • Customer Service Skills: Apply customer service principles and processes on the job and with others.
  • Reading Comprehension: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, see, talk, and hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. This role operates large equipment and needs to constantly position self to maintain the operation of equipment.While performing the duties of this job, the employee must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 50 pounds, and heavier weights with proper equipment.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Regularly work around moving mechanical parts. The noise level is loud. The job may risk exposure to dust, heat and/or cold, wet or humid conditions.

TRAVEL REQUIRED

This job does not require travel. This job will require travel to another facility for training.

WORK STATUS & LOCATION

This full-time, non-exempt position is in Gallatin, TN.

RELOCATION

Relocation is not available for this position.

PAY

$25.00 - $34.42 / hour
