Essential Job Functions |
This position serves as a Paralegal, providing legal support to the
Office of General Counsel, which includes the General Counsel and Vice Chancellor of Institutional Integrity, one Senior Associate General Counsel, two Associate General Counsels, one Assistant General Counsel, the Senior Paralegal, and the Director of Operations completing a variety of administrative and paralegal duties supporting the mission of the Office of General Counsel.
Responsibilities include:
- Serve as staff/management assistant to the attorneys, Director of Operations, Senior Paralegal, and other staff of the office.
- Work ranges from performing paralegal functions to providing standardized legal office support assignments (such as case management, drafting of legal correspondence, research, etc.).
- Public contact is a major component, both internally and externally to the organization.

Provides legal services for the University, with an aim toward the following objectives:
- Assisting in the achievement of University goals within the framework of state and federal laws, and policies adopted by the Board of Governors, President, Board of Trustees and Chancellor;
- Compliance with applicable local, state, federal and international laws in all activities undertaken by the University; and
- Education and training of University officers and employees to prevent or appropriately resolve disputes affecting the University's operations

Preferred Qualifications |
Certification from the North Carolina State Bar as a paralegal and knowledge of North Carolina law and the court system.
- Superior organizational and communication skills;
- Legal Research experience;
- Experience in litigation support; and,
- Experience in transactional law support, specifically contract review.

Professional Knowledge: Knowledge of program policies, procedures, technology, best practices and their theoretical bases, demonstrated by the ability to relate programs to strategic plan to address complex or sensitive issues affecting clients. Knowledge of the inter-relationship of all program areas. Ability to focus management on more strategic programs. Ability to revise and approve programs, services, policies and/or procedures collaboratively. Ability to develop and implement new or revised systems, policies, and/or procedures, related to the business needs of the organization. Ability to serve as the program/project expert.
Program/Project Administration: Ability to administer and/or manage a program with established guidelines and standards in its entirety or several components of a multi-faceted program. Ability to ensure program/project accountability. Ability to define scope, goals, tasks, deliverables, timelines, tools, and resources. Ability to assess the needs of the work unit or project. Ability to determine any gaps, and recommend changes in procedures, workflow and work assignments to improve efficiency and effectiveness in performance of individuals and the work unit as a whole. Ability to develop and monitor program/project databases, schedules and reports. Ability to ensure accuracy of data and compliance with program standards. Ability to perform professional program administrative duties, including technical decisions. Ability to collaborate in the development and completion of grants and contracts. Ability to administer pre- and post-award agreements. Ability to prepare reports as required.
Information Analysis/Decision Making: Ability to analyze business operations and/or financial statements for overall program administration. Ability to develop initiatives to meet program/project needs and objectives. Ability to assess and resolve unprecedented problems that require research and review of policy and procedures for the program or assigned components. Ability to resolves problems or compliance issues, based on delegated authority. |
