POSITION DESCRIPTION AND SPECIFICATION

POSITION TITLE: Senior Aviation Manufacturing Engineer DATE: June 2025

FLSA STATUS: Exempt DEPT: Manufacturing

LOC: North Carolina


POSITION SUMMARY : The Senior Manufacturing Engineer reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for providing leadership and expertise for all aspects of estimating the manufacturing cost of new and existing parts; operates in compliance with company safety practices; and performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. 75% of daily task will be cost estimating.
  2. Analyze detailed 2D drawings, 3D digital models and/or reverse engineered aircraft parts and determine cost estimates for manufacturing to include cost of labor, required equipment, materials, and any other costs that may affect the project.
  3. Assist the Production Manager in the development and implementation of project cost estimating standards and procedures.
  4. Work with the Purchasing Clerk to obtain acceptable quotes from suppliers for required materials.
  5. Document cost estimate and communicate estimate details effectively both internally and externally.
  6. Establish new and maintain existing estimating tools, methods and databases used to produce cost estimates.
  7. Assure quoted parts are consistent with customer specifications.
  8. Perform time studies as required.
  9. Contact customer to resolve engineering or tooling questions.
  10. Provide expertise on machining process issues.
  11. Provide process improvement and cost reduction guidance.
  12. Revise cost estimates for customer engineering changes.
  13. Compile machining quotes into a single package for the customer.
  14. Assist with tooling issues and/or repairs as needed.
  15. Operates in compliance with company safety practices: complies with and aids in the development of departmental safety rules; ensures all equipment is in good working order and operates in a safe manner; monitors area for hazards; and maintains a safe and clean work area.
  16. Product Research and development
  17. Render drawings from customer supplied models.
  18. SOP development and implementation as needed
  19. Performs other duties as assigned.


SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  1. Minimum of three years cost estimating experience, preferably in aviation or military defense.
  2. BS Degree in a related manufacturing discipline or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Ability to quote complex machined components, assemblies, and special processes.
  4. Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing to co-workers and customers.
  5. Familiarity with CAD systems preferred.
  6. Must be computer literate and have a strong working knowledge of MS Word and MS Excel.
  7. Strong conceptual estimating comprehension and analytical skills.
  8. Ability to work to specifications with extremely high attention to detail.
  9. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  10. Self-managing and require minimum supervision.
  11. Team oriented and time sensitive.



Working Environment : The working environment is corporate office facility. Daily contact with employees in other departments is required.
