Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Recreation, Sports Management, or related field from an accredited college or university.
* Two years of relevant work experience in a recreation setting (graduate assistantship experience may be considered)
Position Summary
The Assistant Director for Facility Projects, Maintenance, and Planning is an integral part of the Department of Recreational Sports staff and reports to the Senior Associate Director for Facilities. This position is primarily responsible for assisting with the successful completion of Rec Sports facility projects, facility maintenance oversight, and facility master planning. Additionally, this position will assist with facility project management and pool management, along with hosting special events within the 440,000 sq. ft. Ramsey Student Center; as well as the management of additional departmental outdoor complexes and satellite facilities. This position supervises a Maintenance Foreman and several Student Facility Technicians. In collaboration with the University of Georgia's Office of University Architects, Facility Management Division, Athletics Association, Parking Services, etc., this position will be instrumental in the successful operations and management of Rec Sports facilities.

Physical Demands

  • Move throughout the 440,000 sq. ft Ramsey Center, Pound Hall, and Wheeler Hall.
  • Stand, walk, sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms.
  • Climb up and down ladders and in small spaces.
  • Walk across narrow accesses such as 1.5 ft. widths.
  • Operate department owned vehicles to run job related errands.
  • Lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift/more up to 50 pounds.

Facility and Equipment Management:

  • Conduct regular facility walkthroughs and inspections within all Rec Sports facilities and complete work orders as necessary.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of Rec Sports equipment: golf cart, ranger, soccer goals, ice machines, outdoor lights, and other large pieces of equipment.
  • Responsible completing the department's annual inventory, taking equipment to surplus, and submitting necessary documentation.
  • Maintain proper alignment and functionality of fitness equipment within Rec Sports facilities.
  • Submit work tickets to Maintenance Foreman or Facility Technicians when necessary.
  • Work closely with the Facilities Management Custodial Forepersons to ensure that daily cleaning and maintenance activities are addressed in a satisfactory manner.
  • Work with FMD Grounds staff in the maintenance and upkeep of outdoor spaces and projects.
  • Oversee the design and implementation of a comprehensive maintenance and replacement plan for over 300 pieces of strength and fitness equipment.
  • Maintain proper pool water chemistry including testing water chemical levels daily and adding chemicals to the pool water as needed.
  • Responsible for passing pool health inspections. Ensure proper operation and management of pool filtration system.

Project Management:

  • Oversee and assist with project oversight, studies, designs, pricing, and construction leading to project success.
  • Provide supervision of smaller projects consisting of work orders with UGA Facilities Management Division, UGA Office of University Architects, and sub-contractors.
  • Oversee and assist with the development and management of project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations to ensure cost efficiency and timely delivery.
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and subcontractors to monitor construction progress, resolve issues, and ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.

  • Supervise, mentor, and effectively lead one Maintenance Foreman and several part-time student facility technicians.
  • Ensure the proper recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, and evaluation of part-time student employees.
  • Actively promote and participate in the development, retention & engagement of each staff member

Risk and Strategic Management:

  • Ensure that pool operations are held in accordance with local, state, and federal work codes including OSHA standards as well.
  • Ensure protective equipment is worn properly while handling all pool chemicals and completing facility work.
  • Communicate and resolve any safety concerns in a timely manner. Keep patrons and staff safe via proper barriers, signage, etc.
  • Assist the Director's Team with the Master Facility Plan.
