The Role

We are looking for an innovative leader with strong communications skills to work on our Engineering & Operations team as a Senior Cloud Engineer. In this role, you will report to the Director, Engineering & Operations and play a strategic role in advancing the design, governance, and reliability of our cloud infrastructure. You will lead initiatives that enhance scalability, security, automation, and operational efficiency across our AWS environment. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams to define cloud architecture, support developer enablement, and drive platform modernization initiatives.

You will play a crucial role in helping Curi achieve operational excellence and resilience by applying cloud-native best practices, infrastructure-as-code, and observability standards. This role emphasizes leadership, mentorship, and technical strategy for a secure, automated, and cost-aware engineering environment.

Key Result Areas

  • Lead the design, implementation, and optimization of cloud-native architectures in AWS
  • Define and maintain cloud governance frameworks, including IAM, networking, and security best practices
  • Build and manage scalable, automated infrastructure using tools like Terraform/OpenTofu, GitHub Actions, and container orchestration platforms (e.g., EKS)
  • Implement and continuously improve monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to increase observability and reliability
  • Collaborate with application, security, and data teams to ensure cloud services are resilient, secure, and cost-effective
  • Champion the use of CI/CD, service catalogs, and internal developer tools to improve delivery velocity and reduce toil
  • Contribute to disaster recovery planning, cost attribution, and performance tuning of infrastructure systems
  • Provide mentorship to other engineers and contribute to career development across the Cloud Engineering organization
  • Lead post-incident reviews and apply lessons learned to infrastructure and tooling improvements
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to identify challenges and deliver scalable cloud solutions that empower teams to ship reliably and efficiently

Key Skills

  • Proficient in Terraform or similar Infrastructure-as-Code tools
  • Strong scripting and automation skills (Python, Bash, or PowerShell)
  • Experience with CI/CD systems and Git-based workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions)
  • Familiarity with container technologies (Docker, EKS/ECS)
  • Experience implementing observability tools such as CloudWatch, Datadog, or Prometheus
  • In-depth knowledge of networking, VPC architecture, and IAM in a cloud context
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and drive root cause analysis

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent work experience required
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience designing and implementing cloud infrastructure (primarily in AWS) required
  • AWS certification (Solutions Architect, DevOps Engineer, or Security Specialty) preferred
  • Experience with cross-account AWS environments and federated identity solutions preferred
  • Experience supporting regulated environments or enterprise governance controls
  • Familiarity with cost optimization practices in multi-account cloud environments preferred
  • Exposure to zero-trust architectures and security engineering best practices preferred
