Job Summary

The Administrative Support Psychiatry Team at the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) plays a vital role in supporting the hospital's mission. As part of the broader administrative structure, our team provides comprehensive support for both adult mental health services and children's services at ZSFG. Our Administrative Division supports over 100 experienced medical providers, including UCSF faculty, Medical Staff providers (MSP) physicians, psychiatric nurse practitioners, UCSF psychiatry residents, and clinical fellows.

The Administrator is responsible for overseeing Medicare credentialing, onboarding of new staff and trainees, and ensuring compliance with UCSF and DPH requirements. Additionally, this role manages special projects and supports general operations to ensure smooth administrative functions across the department.

The Administrator works closely with the Assistant Director of Administration in Psychiatry and collaborates extensively with the ZSFG Psychiatry Administrative Leadership Team. This role reports directly to the Assistant Director of Administration

The Division of Integrated Behavioral Health (DIBH) in the ZSFG Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences role is responsible for overseeing daily administrative and Human Resources management within DIBH's robust $18 million portfolio focused on public healthcare system reform. The Administrator will be an essential part of the management team, supporting and maintaining the HR and administrative infrastructure for the Division and Psychiatry and its programs. The role will involve personnel management, purchasing, and administrative operations while ensuring smooth workflow and compliance with federal, local, and internal standards, policies, and regulations.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $109,400 - $164,400 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

San Francisco General Hospital Medical Center (SFGH) is the only Level One Trauma Center and the largest acute inpatient and rehabilitation hospital in the City and County of San Francisco (CCSF).

The Administrative Support Psychiatry Team at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) plays a critical role in advancing the hospital's mission. As part of the broader administrative infrastructure, this team provides essential support for both adult mental health services and pediatric behavioral health services at ZSFG.

The Administrative Division supports a team of over 100 highly skilled medical professionals, including UCSF faculty, Medical Staff Providers (MSP) physicians, psychiatric nurse practitioners, UCSF psychiatry residents, and clinical fellows.

Established in February 2021, the Division of Integrated Behavioral Health within the ZSFG Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences provides consultation, triage, assessment, intervention, psychotherapy, linkage, and treatment recommendations to medical clinics across ZSFG. In collaboration with multiple ZSFG departments and the San Francisco Department of Public Health (DPH), this division offers integrated behavioral health services within ZSFG primary care clinics, the Obstetrics and Midwifery Clinic, inpatient services (including the NICU, Labor and Delivery, and Pediatric Inpatient Unit), and various other specialty medical clinics.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area and minimum five years of experience or equivalent experience / training
  • Minimum of three years experience with DPH policies and procedures
  • Advanced knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management, and / or personnel management
  • Advanced interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills
  • Advanced knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines
  • Advanced knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality
  • Advanced skills in short- and long-term strategic planning, analysis, problem-solving and customer service
  • Advanced knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and / or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees
  • Thorough knowledge of data management and documentation methods used in ambulatory care clinics
  • Ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns
  • Solid organizational skills and ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications


  • Ability to perform all commonly applicable functions in the Microsoft Suite. Skills in data management. Effectively uses relevant healthcare and clinic operations information technology, including billing systems and medical record documentation
  • Skills to evaluate issues and identify resolution. High tolerance of ambiguity; excellent problem solving ability; self-starter with the ability to work both independently and with teams; sense of humor and patience a plus
