Gundersen Health System is seeking a skilled and dedicated individual to join our laboratory team as a part-time phlebotomist at our Viroqua Family Medicine Clinic. Phlebotomists, C.N.A.s, PCTs, CMAs, or other individuals that has an interest in working in a laboratory are encouraged to apply. Prior lab experience is preferred but not required as we will provide on-the-job training!

What You'll Do:

As a Support Staff Technician/Phlebotomist, you will facilitate the flow of specimens into the lab for diagnostic testing. Specimen collection techniques include venipuncture, capillary draw, swab collections, urine collections, and providing instruction to patients for self-collections. In this role, you will support core lab functions at our Viroqua clinic and will occasionally float to our Tomah and Prairie du Chien clinics as needed. Your attention to detail, knowledge of laboratory procedures, and ability to provide excellent patient care will contribute to the overall success of our department. Primary responsibilities include:

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary puncture to collect blood samples from patients

  • Verify patient information and ensure accurate labeling of specimens

  • Prepare specimens for laboratory testing and ensure proper storage and transportation

  • Follow established protocols and safety guidelines to maintain a sterile and safe environment

  • Monitor vital signs and assess patient condition before, during, and after blood collection

  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to coordinate specimen collection and processing

  • Maintain accurate records of all procedures performed and ensure confidentiality of patient information

  • Adhere to quality control procedures to maintain the integrity of specimens and test results

What's Available:

  • Part time, 56 hours biweekly (0.7 FTE)

  • Will train/orientate full time for 4-6 weeks, depending on prior experience

  • Must be available 8a-4:30p to train/orientate first week in La Crosse, WI for phlebotomy; after first week will orientate in Viroqua, WI

  • Monday through Friday day shift, no weekends. Shifts may vary in length (5 hours to 10 hours) between the hours of 7a and 5p

  • Starting pay of $16.21 and up, based on your experience

What You'll Need:

  • High School Diploma or equivalency

  • A copy of the applicant's/employee's diploma and/or transcript as confirmation of the education requirement must be provided at time of hire

  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to provide compassionate care to patients

  • Effective communication skills to interact with patients, healthcare professionals, and laboratory staff

  • Ability to prioritize tasks, work independently, and handle multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced environment

  • Previous phlebotomy/medical experience preferred, but not required.
