The Portfolio Manager - REIT Focus is responsible for the underwriting, credit monitoring, and proactive management of a portfolio of Commercial Real Estate (CRE) relationships, with a specialized emphasis on Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). This role is critical to ensuring the quality, compliance, and profitability of CRE credit relationships, while supporting client retention, portfolio growth, and cross-functional collaboration.

The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, proven experience with complex CRE structures (particularly REITs), and the ability to partner effectively with Relationship Managers to deliver a seamless client experience.
  • Portfolio Management & Credit Analysis
    • Underwrite and manage a portfolio of CRE loans, focusing on REITsand institutional real estate borrowers.
    • Analyze borrower and guarantor financial statements, market and property-level data, and deal structures to evaluate creditworthiness and loan suitability.
    • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, regulatory standards, and CRE risk guidelines.
    • Maintain accurate and timely risk ratings, covenant tracking, and loan monitoring.
  • Client Engagement & Relationship Support
    • Collaborate with Relationship Managers to retain and expand client relationships through high-quality credit support and financial insights.
    • Serve as a key liaison between the client and internal stakeholders (Credit, Loan Ops, Legal, etc.).
    • Assist in preparing and presenting loan recommendations and credit packages for approval.
  • Performance Monitoring & Compliance
    • Monitor ongoing loan performance, including property cash flows, repayment activities, and borrower financial health.
    • Minimize portfolio exceptions related to past-due items, financial covenants, and reporting requirements.
    • Support annual relationship reviews, scorecard reporting, and portfolio audits.
  • Strategic Projects & Mentorship
    • Contribute to regional or bank-wide strategic initiatives and ad hoc projects.
    • Support the training and development of junior portfolio managers as needed.
  • Market Engagement
    • Represent the bank in CRE-related community and industry groups to enhance visibility and business development opportunities.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Real Estate, or related field required.
  • MBA or related graduate degree preferred.

Experience:

  • 4-7 years of commercial real estate lending, credit underwriting, or portfolio management required.
  • Prior experience with REITs and large, complex CRE structures strongly preferred.
  • Formal credit training or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Sales or business development experience a plus.
