About the Role HOT JOB - IMMEDIATE OPENING! Culmen International is seeking a highly skilled industrial automation professional to support the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) Radiation Portal Monitor Program (RPMP) within the Office of Countering Weapons of Mass Destruction (CWMD). The RPMP Systems Engineering & Integration Lead will provide industrial instrument and automation programming technical expertise to CWMD's Radiation Portal Monitor Program, working with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) to include field support during installation and commissioning at the site. This role is heavily centered around hands-on PLC and HMI programming, integration, testing, and field commissioning of automation systems critical to national security infrastructure. This is a remote/hybrid role with 70% travel in the domestic U.S. (TX, CA, WA, MI, SC, VA, FL, MS, NJ, and NY). The desired candidate will be required to commute to Bethesda, MD 20814 two (2) to three (3) times per month during the first three (3) months on-the-job for hands-on programming of the test bed equipment. This position is subject to 75% outdoor/25% indoor working conditions on-site in all elements of weather and land. What You'll Do in Your New Role * Serve as the technical lead for automation system programming and field integration across multiple active sites
* Maintain programmable control logic and operator interface systems using various industrial automation platforms
* Conduct site visits to perform system surveys, configure control hardware, implement and test control logic, and support commissioning activities
* Integrate field equipment (e.g., sensors, actuators, cameras, network devices) into control systems, ensuring reliable system operation
* Configure and validate network-connected industrial devices such as switches, relays, and meters within secure control environments
* Provide ongoing technical support and troubleshooting for deployed automation systems
* Collaborate with engineering teams to design and document control system architectures, updates, and technical deliverables
* Interface with project managers, engineers, and construction teams to coordinate field deployments and resolve integration challenges
* Lead the development of documentation, system diagrams, and compliance reports as part of technical deliverables
* Support the overall project lifecycle from design and testing to field commissioning and operational handoff Required Qualifications * Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Industrial Automation, Control Systems, or a related technical field
* 8-10 years of experience in industrial automation and control systems, with recent experience in programmable logic controller (PLC) and human-machine interface (HMI) programming development
* Hands-on experience with multiple automation platforms (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Beckhoff, ABB, WAGO, or comparable systems)
* Proficient in at least one or more programming environments such as CoDeSys, TwinCAT, TIA Portal, Studio 5000, or similar industrial development tools
* Strong understanding of communication protocols such as Modbus, EtherNet/IP, CAN, DeviceNet, or EtherCAT
* Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex field systems involving both hardware and software
* Effective communicator with strong technical documentation skills and the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects
