Description

The primary function of this position is to perform a wide variety of complex, specialized, data entry tasks including those which require the use of judgment and initiative. The work performed by the incumbent has an immediate and direct impact to the revenue cycle. The ability to work independently under general supervision. The ability to operate computer systems, using word processing, database and software packages. The ability to operate multiple systems simultaneously, including various Electronic Health Records.

Examples of Duties

- Provides a broad range of data entry support for the Department of Central Coding that requires a high level of accuracy.
- Review and update existing patient demographic/insurance information while making applicable visits using the Patient Keeper Billing Report.
- Enter charges into Patient Keeper and CB from billing sheets, spreadsheets, obtained after coder review.
- Create stand-alone visits in order to capture charges for non-clinic-based services according to the SIU Stand Alone Visit Standard of Service.
- Register patients in GE Business per established protocols.
- Accurately update demographic and insurance information in GE Business at each visit entry.
- Track and maintain orderly files for billing records.
- Retrieve any additional information needed by accessing Memorial Citrix, St John's Epic, and outlying facilities.
- Verify insurance information/eligibility using GE Eligibility Tool and insurance websites.
- Research information obtain to ensure accuracy prior to data input.
- Generate encounters for physician services.
- Post manual charge tickets for provider services.
- Work TES edit for missing visit edits.
- Correspond with outlying facilities personnel to obtain information necessary to register patients for accurate charge capture.
- Assist with compiling, summarizing, and organizing patient and billing information from a variety of sources.
- Assist with reviewing missing charge and/or duplicated charge reports.
- Assist with training and continually educate lower levels for support staff.
- Work closely with supervisors and staff to determined the workflow or any issues.
- Maintains the strict confidentiality required for medical records and other data.
- Other duties as assigned.
10% Miscellaneous:
- Assist co-workers such as other coding/ NON-RSS staff as needed.
- Provided back up coverage for the Pre-Arrival team as needed.

Qualifications
-
- Any one or combination totaling one (1) year (12 months) from the categories below:
- College coursework in a health-related field, business administration/management, human resource management, or closely related fields as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
- 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
- Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
- Work experience in a healthcare environment working with medical claims, denials, rejections, referrals, and prior authorizations.
