The salary range for this position takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs.

At WGU, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their position, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is:

Job Description

This position is responsible for supporting complex accommodation requests of students with disabilities in assigned areas. Provides direct consultation to advisors on escalated students and complex accommodation requests and serves as an expert resource for Accessibility teams. Provides consultation and assistance to current and prospective students, WGU personnel, and external agencies.

Essential Functions:

  • Research and provide counsel for students with disabilities with highly complex accommodation requests.

  • Provide direct support and consultation to Advisors regarding unique and/or escalated accommodation requests.

  • Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in a particular WGU program or area of disability and accessibility services.

  • Assist individuals in understanding how complying with the Americans with Disabilities Act and other related policies and laws applies to their situation.

  • Work collaboratively with other WGU entities as it relates to student complaints and escalations (i.e., Ombuds, Proctoring Services, Assessment Services).

  • Research and resolve issues with approved accommodations for escalated student accommodation requests.

  • Verify eligibility for ADA services by an interactive process, including reviewing disability documentation from educational institutions, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other medical providers.

  • Determine reasonable accommodations, generate, and provide letters of accommodation to students.

  • Maintain student ADA files, including medical documentation, accommodation letters and correspondence regarding ADA services.

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student health information.

  • Provide timely responses to all student inquiries and accommodation requests.

  • Provide ongoing consultation and assistance to faculty and staff who are working with students with disabilities.

  • Provide counsel for students with disabilities to assist them in meeting educational goals and promote independence and self-advocacy.

  • Assist in the research of assistive technologies and resources.

  • Investigate and problem solve accessibility barriers utilizing appropriate resources and collaborating with other University departments.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  • Exemplary communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.

  • Ability to professionally communicate across a wide variety of individuals at the university while focusing on problem resolution.

  • Ability to work with a wide variety of escalated student issues and maintain student confidentiality.

  • Deep understanding of WGU Programs as it pertains to students with disabilities.

  • Deep understanding of non-discrimination and equal access laws including the Americans with Disabilities Act and Sections 503 and 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and other federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to persons with disabilities.

Job Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a field of study related to student affairs or disability services

  • Five (5) years of related experience working directly with students on accommodations in higher education.

  • One to two years' experience providing consultations on complex accommodations requests and supporting student escalations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree

  • 504 Coordinator, ADA certification, or other relevant certifications and certificates.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods working on a computer.

Position & Application Details
