About the Department and/or College

Texas Tech University Libraries serve as a vital partner with students and faculty in their learning endeavors. The University Libraries' system comprises: (1) University Library, (2) Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library,(3) Architecture Library, and (4) Peters Family Legacy Library within the Student Enrichment Center. The University Library is a patent and trademark depository and is one of two regional depositories for U.S. government documents in Texas. The central focus of the Texas Tech University Libraries is to make available 3.72 million physical volumes, electronic resources, special collections and archives, and to offer services to students and faculty that enable academic and research success.

Major/Essential Functions

The TTU Library seeks two student interns for the 2025-2026 academic year to develop, curate, digitize, describe, and manage digital projects in a digital scholarship environment. The interns will report to the Director of the Digital Scholarship Lab and the Digital Curation Librarian and collaborate with other campus entities focused on archives and digital humanities.

This internship will consist of a minimum of 8 hours per week and a maximum of 19 hours per week during the academic year. The internship begins September 2025 and ends in May 2026. The interns' availability must be when the lab is open: Monday - Friday, 6a - 6p. Besides meeting the minimum hours per week, shifts must be at least 2 hours in length. The interns will receive an hourly wage of $17.55 per hour.

The interns will gain experience with digitization, metadata, workflow planning, project management, equipment and process training, copyright permissions, and the preservation of access. The interns will be expected to help with scanning, image processing, quality review, curation, redaction, ingest of digital materials, and creation of metadata and collection descriptions in a digital content management system. The interns will work in collaboration with the Southwest Collection/Special Collections Library to help with processing an unprocessed collection and create an EAD finding aid. There will be shadowing opportunities with other librarians and archivists which work with physical and digital cultural heritage materials.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or equivalent. No experience required.

  • Interest in digital cultural heritage projects, specifically digitization and using technology to increase access to these collections.
  • At least a Sophomore in credits and 3.5 GPA or higher.
  • Interest or demonstrated coursework in the humanities.
