Position Overview
QinetiQ US is looking for a Vice President, Controller to join our team. The Vice President, Controller serves as the senior financial executive responsible for overseeing corporate accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance across all government and commercial programs. This role provides strategic leadership to ensure the organization meets all regulatory, audit, and contractual financial obligations while enabling data-driven decision-making. The VP, Controller partners cross-functionally with Program Managers, Contracts, Subcontracts, Business Development, and Executive Leadership to ensure financial efficiency, compliance, and growth in a dynamic federal contracting environment.
Responsibilities
Strategic Financial Leadership
Lead all aspects of corporate accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll, indirect rate structures, and project accounting.
- Develop and implement scalable financial systems, policies, and internal controls to support growth and ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, CAS, and GAAP.
- Partner with the CFO and executive team in strategic financial planning, annual budgeting, forecasting, and investment decision-making.
- Oversee financial system optimization and integrations (e.g., Deltek Costpoint), enhancing automation, reporting accuracy, and audit readiness.
Program Finance & Control
- Provide executive oversight and guidance for program control support, including monthly close activities, project-level revenue and profit variance analysis, and EACs (Estimate-at-Completion).
- Lead coordination with Program Managers to develop, track, and monitor annual budgets, forecasts, and program performance metrics across multiple contract types (T&M, FFP, Cost-Reimbursable).
- Deliver timely and accurate financial reports and dashboards to senior leadership, highlighting cost, schedule, and performance risks and opportunities.
- Support contract setup and subcontract administration processes, including funding monitoring and purchase requisition compliance.
- Oversee financial risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for program execution and financial delivery.
Compliance, Audit, and Reporting
- Ensure readiness for all DCAA/DCMA audits and lead responses to incurred cost submissions, indirect rate negotiations, and audit findings.
- Coordinate financial reporting and compliance activities across contracts, subcontracts, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure proper invoicing and revenue recognition practices are followed; support invoice reviews for clients and subcontractors and ensure alignment with contractual requirements.
Operational Oversight & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of accounting, program control, and financial analysis professionals.
- Ensure consistent performance management and support of financial staff and provide oversight for consultants and subcontractors where needed.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, analytical thinking, and proactive financial partnership with operations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (Master's or MBA preferred; degree in Management a plus).
- CPA required.
- 10+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, with at least 5 years in government contracting.
- Deep understanding of government contract accounting regulations (FAR, DFARS, CAS) and cost principles.
- Proven experience supporting complex financial operations in a mid- to large-sized contractor environment, including monthly closes, program control, and budgeting.
- Expertise in Deltek Costpoint and Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with executive leadership, clients, government stakeholders, consultants, and subcontractors.
- Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities and drive decisions based on data and insight.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing federal programs with diverse funding streams and contract types.
- Track record of improving financial reporting, driving cost efficiencies, and supporting organizational change.
- Familiarity with supporting performance management of project staff and assisting with issue resolution in program delivery environments.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply complex policy, regulatory, and contractual documents in a fast-paced, compliance-driven organization.
