The Department of Mechanical, Materials and Aerospace Engineering at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Temporary STEM Camp Chaperone and Lab Assistant.

About the Opportunity

We are seeking two responsible and enthusiastic temporary employees to support a STEM summer academy focused on aerospace. These individuals will serve as both a chaperone, ensuring participant safety and engagement during camp activities, and a lab assistant, helping to set up, supervise, and clean up hands-on aerospace-related experiments and projects.

What You'll Do



  • Supervise and chaperone middle and high school students during daily camp activities, meals, and field trips.
  • Assist instructors in preparing and managing aerospace-focused lab sessions and demonstrations.
  • Support students with materials and guidance during hands-on activities.
  • Help maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Monitor student conduct and communicate with camp staff regarding any issues.
  • Ensure lab spaces are organized and cleaned after use.


Pay Grade: 13

Length of Assignment: Approximately 0.5 month (14 days)

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in any field.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
  • All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



  • Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working with youth
  • Dependable, safety-conscious, and able to follow instructions


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Background in STEM or education.
  • Experience with aerospace.
