At Ports America, the Terminal Mechanic will act as the subject matter expert in repairs and maintenance of: Taylor and Hyster Container Handling Equipment; Terberg, and Ottawa Yard Trucks; Taylor, Hyster and Hyundai forklifts and terminal vehicles necessary to provide daily and long-term support for stevedoring activities.

Essential Duties:



  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Taylor, Terberg, Ottawa and Hyster Container Handling equipment such as yard hustlers, yard dogs, mules, yard trucks, top loaders, etc....
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair Taylor, Hyster and Hyundai forklifts.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair terminal vehicles.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment
  • Complete written inspection reports, work orders, requisitions and parts list.
  • Must seek repair authorization and approval for parts that are not in parts inventory.
  • Deliver and position equipment for various stevedoring activities remain on site to perform emergency repairs during vessel/terminal operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work flexible hours as dictated by business need.



Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5+ years in mechanical, utility, and/or maintenance experience
  • Basic set of mechanics hand and air tools at least up to 1 1/2" wrenches, sockets, metric, and standard



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer skills for completion of daily reports, work orders and requisitions.
  • Experience training others in software applications that support the department's operations.


Working Conditions:

Climb up and down on equipment and ladders



  • Work in changing hot and cold climates based on weather conditions
  • Work in an environment that may be hazardous to persons unable to see and hear fast moving equipment
  • Stand long period of times
  • Lift, push, and or pull up to 50lbs
