Your Opportunity as Senior Scientist Research & Development, Nutrition Science

The Senior Scientist Research & Development (R&D), Nutrition Science works to influence the nutritional design of our Frozen Handheld & Spreads and Sweet Baked Snacks products informed by Strategic Business Area (SBA) strategic priories, consumer insights, regulatory requirements, and the latest nutritional science. They will work with R&D SBA Leaders to develop a nutrition vision and guardrails for key categories/brands. They will also provide guidance related to nutrition and human health with various disciplines (e.g. Product Development & Products Research) within R&D, as well as cross-functionally (e.g. Regulatory & Legal) in pursuit of innovation and optimization of product formulations. Additionally, they will utilize their technical background to assimilate, synthesize, and disseminate latest industry/academia thinking on nutrition and health.

Location: Corporate Offices in Orrville, Ohio (relocation assistance provided)

Work Arrangements: Hybrid, Onsite a minimum of 9 days a month primarily during core weeks as determined by the Company; maybe more as business need requires

In this role your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and implement nutrition guidelines and standards for product development on major, priority brands.
  • Evaluate new, emerging nutrition information that might either provide a competitive advantage or disadvantage in the future.
  • Collaborate with R&D, marketing, and regulatory teams to influence nutritional design, compliance and accuracy.
  • Participate in the development and deployment of technical content for nutritional claims support and substantiation requirements.
  • Provide expert advice on nutrition-related matters to internal teams and external stakeholders particularly around emerging technical issues.
  • Stay updated on the latest nutrition research, trends, research, and regulations. And, in collaboration with other R&D members, socialize business recommendations accordingly
  • Partner with regulatory and government relations on current challenges and opportunities and anticipating future challenges and opportunities in emerging nutrition space. Work with regulatory and government relations to influence nutrition related policies that could impact future business direction (example - Dietary Guidelines for Americans).
  • Participate in consumer education initiatives and health promotion activities.
  • Conduct training sessions for staff on nutrition-related topics.

What we are looking for:

Minimum Requirements:

  • PhD or MS in Nutrition or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a nutrition-related role, preferably in the food industry
  • Background and extensive network into organizations performing nutrition research
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition science, food regulations, and labeling requirements.
  • Fundamental knowledge in food science and processing technologies
  • Solid understanding of ingredient nutritional value and nutrient bioavailability, and the complex interactions that influence it (e.g. physiology, formulation, manufacturing processes)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in using nutrition analysis software and tools.

Additional skills and experience that we think would make someone successful in this role:

  • Registered Dietitian (RD) or equivalent certification
