About the George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology

Job Summary

The George W. Woodruff School of Mechanical Engineering invites applications for a full-time academic professional at all ranks (Associate Academic Professional, Academic Professional, Senior Academic Professional, Principal Academic Professional). The Woodruff School is one of the largest and highest-ranked engineering programs in the nation, which houses both a Mechanical Engineering (ME) and a Nuclear and Radiological Engineering (NRE) program.

The academic professional position is a non-tenure track faculty position that combines administrative and teaching activities. The rank of the position (Associate Academic Professional, Academic Professional, or Senior Academic Professional) will be determined based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate. The primary administrative responsibilities of the person hired for this position are to focus on programs that enhance and enrich how computing is taught within the mechanical engineering curriculum.

Responsibilities

Duties for this position may include but are not limited to

  • Teaching and infusing Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and Data Analytics into the core curriculum including software and project development for the instructional curriculum. This could include teaching one of the 3 new upper-level elective courses in AI/ML that have recently been developed.
  • Teach ME 2016 Computing Techniques and two recently developed upper-level undergraduate ML and AI courses within the current mechanical engineering undergraduate curriculum.
  • Help lead the development of a sequence of 2 computing course at the freshman and sophomore level within mechanical engineering to eventually replace CS 1371 and ME 2016. These courses will provide a broad foundation for mechanical engineering students to leverage computing and data science in discipline-specific applications.
Required Qualifications

This position vacancy is an open rank announcement. Associate Academic Professional

  • This is the entry-level rank and normally requires completion of the terminal degree. In exceptional cases, this rank may be used for individuals completing a terminal degree and for a period of two (2) years.

Academic Professional

  • Terminal degree
  • Significant related experience or promotion from the rank of Associate Academic Professional
  • Quality of performance and potential development must be recognized by peers.

Senior Academic Professional

  • Terminal degree
  • Evidence of superior performance in the chosen field
  • Recognition by peers (whether national, regional, or local)
  • Successful and measurable related experience
  • Five (5) years or more as an Academic Professional

Principal Academic Professional

  • Terminal degree
  • Evidence of superior performance in the chosen field
  • Recognition by peers (whether national, regional, or local)
  • Successful and measurable related experience supervising others work
  • Successful and measurable related experience in a position of significant responsibility and authority within a program area
  • Demonstrated impact.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Experience programming in both Python and MATLAB.
  • Ideal candidates should have expertise in both supervised and unsupervised ML approaches.
