Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly rate for this position is $21.40 - $22.64 per hour.

The Substance Abuse Counselor provides primary clinical care, addictions counseling, and case management services to residents of Exodus House, located in West Virginia. This role is responsible for delivering individualized and group counseling sessions, supporting residents in their recovery journey, and coordinating services to address substance use disorders. The counselor works collaboratively with the treatment team to develop and implement care plans that promote stability, recovery, and overall well-being.

Required: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience providing substance abuse treatment therapy and clinical services

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree; 3-5 yrs experience providing substance abuse treatment therapy and clinical services; experience counseling on addictions in residential treatment; MSW, LGSW, or CAC from the West Virginia Department of Health

Required License/Certification: Basic Life Support [CPR & AED] Provider; Driver's License

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm (40 hours per week)

Expected Contributions:

Addiction Treatment Services



  • Provide individual addiction counseling on a weekly basis
  • Facilitate psycho-education addictions group and therapeutic groups
  • Coordinate planning of and provide addictions therapeutic groups
  • Complete comprehensive assessment
  • Enter encounter notes in EClinical within 24 hours of service being provided
  • Develop individual treatment plans within 7 days of entry in program
  • Participate in weekly clinical supervision
  • Complete discharge within 7 days of exit from program


Case Management:



  • Provide case management for residents
  • Make referrals and link residents to resources in community
  • Assist residents in setting up health insurance
  • Coordinate care with outside agencies
  • Maintain documentation on cases
  • Assist with client transportation to medical appointments, as needed
