LOCATION: Remote/Telework

CLEARANCE: Ability to obtain DHS ICE Public Trust (Active or prior DoD clearance preferred); clearance must be adjudicated prior to starting employment (can take 4-6+ weeks to process)

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Network Engineer to play a critical role in designing, implementing, and supporting a Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) environment for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). This role requires a proactive, solution-oriented professional with strong technical aptitude and a commitment to secure, resilient network environments.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including cybersecurity, identity management, and systems engineering, to deploy modern access control frameworks and drive innovation in the agency's security posture.



Responsibilities

    Design, implement, and optimize secure network infrastructures aligned with Zero Trust Architecture principles.
  • Support the integration of Zscaler cloud security technologies, including ZIA and ZPA, into the enterprise environment.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to analyze current-state architecture and develop transition plans to a Zero Trust model.
  • Provide hands-on engineering and configuration of network and security components to support identity-based access control.
  • Work closely with Identity & Access Management (IAM) teams to ensure seamless integration with Okta, LOGIN.GOV, and Active Directory.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to ensure high availability and integrity of mission-critical systems.
  • Contribute to system documentation, including design diagrams, configuration guides, and security compliance artifacts.
  • Participate in technical assessments, risk analysis, and engineering reviews in support of DHS security mandates.


Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in Network Engineering with a strong understanding of enterprise network topologies.
  • Solid knowledge of IP networking, routing/switching, firewalls, VPNs, and secure transport protocols.
  • Experience with Zscaler cloud security technologies or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with identity management systems, including Okta, LOGIN.GOV, and Microsoft Active Directory.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality technical solutions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and adapt them within a secure government IT environment.
  • Must be able to obtain a DHS ICE Public Trust clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Active or previously held DoD Security Clearance (e.g., Secret or higher).
  • Experience working in federal or highly regulated environments.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNP, CISSP, Zscaler Certified Professional, or equivalent.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Candidate must be able to function in general office environment.
