Position Overview:

As the Operations Manager, you will oversee both operational activities at the IAD assigned station. To include hiring and training employees and managing quality assurance programs, strategizing process improvements to ensure everyone completes their tasks on schedule.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Including but not limited to):

  • Manage all aspects of the daily operations as well as provide leadership and coaching to increase overall safety, performance, maintenance, flight operations, facility requirements and customer service. This requires you to be fully cross-trained in both Operations. (Deicing Operations and Environmental Services)
  • Assist the General Manager/Station Manager with station audits, provide information needed for airline reports, and handle all airline and FAA questions/concerns as required;
  • Partner in auditing, measuring and reporting compliance with Quality, Training and Operations programs;
  • Participate in customer and regulator interactions with focus on compliance, customer service and continuous improvement;
  • Interface with internal customers and assist with meeting internal customer requirements on local and system-wide scope;
  • Ensure that all flights that we deice operate on time, safely and efficiently;
  • Communicate regularly on airline manual updates to provide information to employees and coordinate with the General Manager on investigations of any security issues, accident reviews and be a part of the review and recommendation process for safety measures taken to prevent further occurrences;
  • Monitor maintenance on all material handling equipment and provide safety training for all base employees;

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management, Business Management or related field;
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing a winter operations OR, environment services operation or, an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Successful completion of required background and clearance requirements;
  • A broad range of airline operational experience including but not limited to customer service, operations, maintenance, flight operations, facility requirements, airport management and safety/regulatory requirements;
  • Thorough understanding of, or ability to quickly learn, the office equipment, recordkeeping systems, management information systems, and related protocols used in the organization;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Professional and tactful interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with a variety of personalities;
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
  • Excellent time management skills with proven ability to meet deadlines;
  • Excellent time management;
  • Basic understanding of accounting management principles;

  • Travel for training both local and non-local up to 10% max per year.

Work Environment:

  • Office environment with the potential of remaining seated for extended periods of time;
  • Continuous use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse;
  • Warehouse - physically strenuous, prolonged periods of time standing with exposure to noise (may be excessive at times), safe but potentially unpleasant odors, varying temperatures and humidity, in and around heavy moving equipment;
  • Outdoor - prolonged periods of time standing with exposure to prevalent weather, dust, dirt, fuel, fumes and noise, in or around heavy equipment and moving vehicles;
  • May be exposed to hazards inherent in airport operations, including noise, vehicles, equipment, and weather, all of which are well-managed with a high level of training, personal protective equipment, and safety procedures.

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms, speak and hear efficiently;
  • Must be able to squat, stoop, kneel, bend, stretch, crawl, climb ladders and/or work at heights in excess of 15 ft. to perform role, repairs and/or inspections;
  • Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling;
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds;
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
