Position Summary:

Vallen is seeking an experienced, curious, forward-thinking, and energetic Director of Operations Accounting to join our Finance leadership team. This hybrid role will serve as a proactive business partner and hands-on leader, driving operational excellence across accounting processes and ensuring adherence to US GAAP, internal controls, and audit requirements. This role offers a unique opportunity to lead and innovate within a dynamic organization while playing a key role in financial integrity and strategic decision-making.

Scope of Position:
Vallen's Director Finance is motivated, highly organized and experienced finance professional. This position will be responsible for and lead financial reporting, capex and cash management, operational accounting (including revenue, accounts payable, accounts receivable, inventory, government regulatory filings) and oversee audit and compliance for 26 branches across Canada. They demonstrate a strong understanding of Vallen's business model and develop long term strategic plans, annual budgets, and forecasts in partnership with the Canadian Executive Leaders. As well as identify and communicate expense savings and/or margin expansion opportunities through accurate, timely and insightful financial and operational analysis.
  • Support, collaborate and consult with the executive team for efficient and effective operations. Interpret complex financial information and make recommendations to senior and executive management.
  • Gather and analyze financial, economic and other data to drive robust budgeting and planning processes; facilitate short to midterm forecasting processes; substantiate the forecast and report on variances.
  • Implement systems for early identification of budget and forecast shortfalls and/or windfalls; deliver recommendations for corrective action.
  • Complete ad hoc reporting to support multiple stakeholders in a cross-functional matrix environment, balancing their needs and perspectives to maximize the company's interests.
  • Oversee all aspects of accounting department including revenue, accounts payable, accounts receivable and inventory while assuring accuracy, timeliness, and conformity with professional standards, best practices and internal policies.
  • Guide the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reporting activities and maintain supporting schedules.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and external financial professionals.
    Implement policies, procedures and controls for all areas of financial and data integrity and for custody and control of assets.
  • Work closely with the treasury department to establish short and long-term cash projections.
  • Integrate acquisitions into systems and processes.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and developing talent within the greater finance team.
    Read, understand, and follow Vallen's health, safety, and environment policies and all applicable OH&S legislation/regulations.
  • Actively participate in Vallen's health and safety management system, including training, audits, assessments, safety meetings, and inspections.
  • Identify, control, and report workplace hazards including following WHMIS/TDG requirements and reporting near misses.
  • Report workplace injuries immediately and participate in any return-to-work programs or requirements.
  • Be fit for duty and physically capable of performing all required tasks.

Essential Functions:

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate the timely execution of the US month-end close process.
  • Design and develop team structures and workflows to ensure high performance and alignment with business goals.
  • Ensure accuracy of journal entries and compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and audit requirements.
  • Partner cross-functionally to resolve sales, procurement, or supply chain-related accounting issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement of systems and processes within the accounting operations function.
  • Lead regulatory compliance efforts related to reporting.
  • Serve as a key point of contact for both internal and external audit processes.
  • Provide leadership, coaching, and development for accounting operations team members.
  • Act as a strategic finance partner to business leaders and support organizational initiatives with financial insights.
  • Collaborate on system upgrades and implementations to optimize financial processes.
  • Deliver ad hoc reporting and analysis as required.

Job Requirements and Skill Sets:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting operations experience, including people management.
  • Experience with Infor SX.e and Workday Adaptive, preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP and accounting operations best practices.
  • Prior experience in a complex, fast-paced environment preferred.
  • Proven ability to influence cross-functional teams and manage through change.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
Direct supervisor of a department, section, unit or group involving responsibility for results in terms of cost, methods and personnel. Full accountability for hiring, discipline, discharge, performance appraisals, salary administration, etc.
