Job Overview
The SME 2 will provide high-level subject matter expertise to the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG), U.S. Navy (USN), and other customers requiring cradle-to-grave Command, Control, Communications, Computer, and Information Technology (C4IT) systems both, shore-based, and shipboard. Work Model: Onsite
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) support for multiple USCG shore and shipboard based C4IT projects.
- Provide underway and in port, podium and over-the-shoulder training for operators and command cadre personnel.
- Provide underway mission support for operators and command cadre personnel.
- Create and conduct training in response to customer request or perceived training need.
- Create and deliver Quick Reference Guides (QRG) or job aids as required.
- Provide installation assistance, troubleshooting, onsite maintenance support, and technical training as required.
- Knowledge and use of systems include but are not limited to:
- Command and Control.
- Shipboard Navigation.
- Surveillance and reconnaissance.
- Internal and external communications.
- Travel required to CONUS / OCONUS facilities including underway periods on USCG operational units.
- Perform related work as assigned in an unsupervised, reactive, and mission critical environment.
Accountable For:
- Excellent oral communication skills including but not limited to customer interactions, formal and informal training, and meeting facilitation.
- Excellent written communications including but not limited to development and editing of business and technical documents, engineering changes, meeting and trip reports, Time Compliant Technical Orders, training material, and after action reports.
- Ability to deal with people in a professional and courteous manner.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment.
- Ability to organize and prioritize own work as well as assigned personnel.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to research and analyze technical data.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
- U.S. Citizen.
- SECRET clearance or higher.
- Valid U.S. Passport.
- 4 or more years' operational experience in shore/shipboard based U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) C4IT systems.
- Knowledge and use of USCG Common Operating Environment (COE) based and AEGIS Based Command and Control systems.
- Knowledge and use of USCG shipboard internal and external communications systems.
- Knowledge and use of USCG shipboard navigation systems and sensors.
- Knowledge and use of USCG shipboard passive and active surveillance and reconnaissance systems.
- Well versed in Microsoft Office and related business software.
- Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check and pre-hire drug test.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Management, or a related field.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work and go to sea on USCG Cutters
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to go up and down ladders.
- Must be able lift 50 lbs
- Exposed to periods of dexterous physical activity including sitting, standing, walking, climbing up and down shipboard ladders and minimal lifting.
