Pharmacy Buyer supports purchasing, receiving, and distribution of medications, pharmacy supplies, materials, equipment and services across pharmacy areas within the UVA Health Enterprise. This position performs a broad range of advanced procurement-related technical duties for pharmacy areas including, but not limited to, retail, specialty, and contract pharmacies. Pharmacy Buyer identifies drug shortages and works to find alternate suppliers and comparable products; ensures timely processing and payment for all purchases; performs appropriate financial oversight of purchases according to budget and evaluates spend variances; ensures purchases are compliant with 340B Drug Pricing program and operates within compliant workflows of the program with high integrity and compliance; purchases and maintains compliance with controlled substance medications in conjunction with DEA, FDA, and state Board of Pharmacy requirements.
- Purchases and replenishes a large volume of varied and complex pharmaceuticals in a centralized purchasing program across the health-system Purchases for variety of pharmacy types with various pharmaceutical and supply needs including inpatient, perioperative, infusion, retail, specialty, and long-term care pharmacies.
- Develops, implements, and ensures effective business practices and procedures. Maintains oversight to purchase order creation, and ensures invoices are paid in a timely manner.
- Purchases pharmaceuticals within operational and compliance requirements of the 340B Drug Pricing Program. Purchases within a variety of 340B program set ups (mixed-use, 340B pure, virtual inventory, non-virtual inventory), and various 340B third-party administrator software systems.
- Recommends changes in methods and procedures to improve systems of procurement and takes an active role in departmental program improvement initiatives. Identifies and takes action when process can be improved to reduce waste, improve workflow, and reduce drug expense.
- Supports the daily operations of the Pharmacy Storeroom. Review receiving documentation daily, coordinate clinic requisitions, and product distribution across the health-system.

Position Compensation Range: $25.72 - $41.15 Hourly
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: High School Graduate required. Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Business Accounting or applicable Health Care field preferred. Experience: 2 years experience in health care or business required. 3 or more years of experience preferred. Experience as pharmacy technician and knowledge of 340B program preferred. Completion of 340B University required, or completed within 3 months of hire. Licensure: Pharmacy technician registration in Virginia required within 6 months of hire. National certification (i.e. PTCB or other exam) required upon 6 months of hire.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
