Job Description Summary

Responsible for assisting the Director of Spirit Program with the administration and coaching needs related to the Wake Forest spirit programs, with a primary focus on efforts related to the daily operation of Cheerleading program. Coordinates activities, game management and production of cheer activities at various athletic and University events.

Job Description

Essential Functions:

  • Assists the director with preparation of cheer team to perform at all football, men's basketball, women's basketball and selected other games. Includes coordinating the cheer team's role in time-outs, half-time and pre-game, game management and collaboration with the band.
  • Assists the head coach with scheduling, organizing and conducting cheerleader team tryouts, and the selections of the cheerleader team squads.
  • Secures practice locations, schedules and supervises daily practice sessions, and assists in choreographing dances.
  • Serves as the main contact person for cheerleaders.
  • Communicates regularly with the athletic trainer regarding the health and wellbeing of the team.
  • Assists the director with team travel logistics. Serves as chaperone during travel.
  • Assists with public relations activities through involvement in community, University, and student organizations. Provide updates for the program website as needed.
  • Follow all University, ACC, and NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Ability to travel and work weekends and evening hours.

Other Functions:

  • Attend monthly all athletics staff meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 1-3 years experience coaching cheer teams
  • Able to perform full range of activities related to cheering
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community. Ability to foster a cooperative environment.
  • Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
  • CPR/AED/First Aid Certified
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Valid driver's license

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Strong focus on customer service
  • Initiative to solve problems

Accountabilities:

  • Serves as the supervisor of the assistant cheer coach and the game day cheer assistant coach.
