Description
YOU'D LIKE TO DO THIS We are seeking an electrical engineering manager to lead our electrical engineering design and analysis team with extensive hands-on experience with analog and digital electronics, PCB design, and embedded applications in the design of our high-reliability, radiation hardened space systems. Working at BlueHalo, an AV company, you will have the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of electrical design in many different programs, support engineering efforts from concept to production. AV engineering managers are "working managers" that support developing and active programs while maintaining the ability to manage their functional groups readiness to meet business needs. Thus, this posting is for both an experienced engineer as well as someone with the skills and desire for personnel management. Responsibilities include:
- Management and growth of the electrical engineering team. At AV, electrical engineers are responsible for system architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, analysis (radiation, reliability, worst case analysis, etc.), cable design, and initial unit(s) integration and test activities.
- Directly supporting a complex space electronics program from concept through production with the development of core subsystems for a spacecraft and supporting systems.
- Create, maintain and communicate product development schedules with sufficient detail to ensure that all assigned personnel are aware of their tasks and deadlines.
- Lead the electrical engineering group to develop flight architectures and designs for high reliability, resiliency, redundancy and/or fault tolerance.
- Collaborate with other functions to define product requirements, develop specifications for all critical circuit card modules, write and execute design verification test plans.
- Support software and firmware team's development effort with an understanding of flight controls, integration, power management, and networking.
- Development and growth of the electrical engineering group (mentorship, hiring, training, career path, individual & group goals, business alignment).
- Responsible for satisfactory execution of all electrical engineering work with a team of approximately 10-15 engineers.
- Define engineering processes and tool integration with other engineering disciplines.
- Define and execute a rigorous yet tailorable review process depending on the program complexity, mission class and program risk tolerance.
- Support supplier management with make/buy recommendations and supplier evaluations.
- Support the analysis of customer and system requirements
- Lead the development of high-level architecture and detailed designs consistent with specifications for various electronic products
- Review testing and analysis activity to assure compliance to requirements.
- Identify, track, and status technical performance measures to measure progress and ensure compliance with requirements.
- Coordinate engineering support throughout the lifecycle of the product.
- Plan research projects to develop concepts for future product designs to meet projected requirements.
- Ability to occasionally travel to support project needs, both locally during the day and out-of-area overnight.
YOU'RE REQUIRED TO HAVE THIS
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent STEM discipline.
- Prior experience either directly supervising multiple employees, or as a team leader indirectly managing a small team of engineers.
- 5+ years' experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design, simulation, and layout.
- Experience with mixed signal circuit card design and simulation, including devices such amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, digital-to-analog converters, digital functions, microprocessors, and point-of-load regulators.
- Understanding of common communications interfaces, including RS232, RS422, RS485, SPI, I2C, LVDS, and Ethernet.
- Experience using common electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal analyzers, and function generators.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance.
YOU COULD ALSO HAVE THIS
- 5+ years of engineering group management experience with direct reports.
- 7+ years of engineering project management experience, leading teams in the development of complex electronics systems or sub-assemblies.
- Proven experience developing complex electronics for space missions.
- Experience in performing analysis necessary for space electronics including worst case circuit analysis, circuit stress analysis, reliability analysis, etc.
- Experience with programming languages including C, C++, VHDL, and MATLAB scripting.
- Developed technology within an AS9100 or ISO 9001:2015 certified organization.
- Successful transition of electronics technology to production.
- Supported production of electronics systems or assemblies (design changes, parts replacement, cost of poor quality, fabrication process improvements, in-production testing, etc.)
- Working knowledge of relevant standards and parts programs (IPC J-STD-001, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-464, DO-254, NASA, NAS, IEEE, EEE, etc.)
- Master's degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent STEM discipline, from an accredited four-year university.
- Experience developing firmware for embedded applications (FPGA, SoC devices, etc.).
