Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Director of Nursing Education and Research.

In this role, the successful candidate Directs and evaluates education and professional development of nursing staff through evidence base best practice. Analyze and develops nursing programs based on skill and needs assessment. This role supports the ongoing professional development of nursing staff to move nursing practice forward. through education, supports efforts to translate evidence into practice . works in partnership with leader in creatively planning and implementing education strategies aligned with the core mission and vision of Lutheran Medical Center. Creates, fosters and encourages a climate of learning and a structure that promotes continuous development.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Functions as a liaison with other manager to coordination clinical education and professional development activities , such as conferences , research activities ,seminars for both in house staff and markets programs for outside participation.
  • Administrative responsibility for the development , implementation and evaluation of the nursing education programs using current evidence based practices to ensure quality care.
  • Establishes nursing education standards and oversees curriculum and quality of educational programs presented by clinical nurse instructors.
  • Assesses the educational needs of nursing staff , based on quality initiatives,new program development, technology and competency evaluation.
  • Provides and environment and leadership style which motivates and encourages staff for continuous professional growth
  • Collaborate with Nursing recruitment and management staff to coordinate and plan orientation for new staff and new role.
  • Participates in or chairs appropriate councils , committees and activities representing the division , Nursing and /or the hospital
  • Designs and revises orientation and training programs to ensure that it prepares employees
  • Ensure that educational programs are on going and designed to augment knowledge of pertinent new development in patient care and services,electronic medical record documentation,as well as to maintain current competence including coordination of nurse manager leadership development.
  • supervises the clinical nurse instructors in the assessment and evaluation of nursing staff performance and competency during orientation. In collaboration with senior leadership makes decision on continuation of orientation of new staff members.
  • Act as resource to specialty instructors in the provision of specialized orientation in appropriate ares (ED,Critical Care, Women's/Children, Psychiatry etc)
  • Provides for and directs the on going review of respective services with regard to philosophy , goals, objectives and ensures on going education of policies and procedures based on evidence based practice
  • Interprets implements ,enforces and evaluates clinical policies and procedures and makes revisions as needed
  • Coordinates requirements of affiliating colleges for nursing programs.
  • Assumes responsibility for program,education,competencies and follow-up needed to ensure compliance with regulatory , clinical requirements in collaboration with clinical nursing leadership
  • Summarizes and evaluates all educational and orientation programs performed periodically and submits appropriate reports.
  • Provides oversight to all nursing curriculum development and facilitates CE approval process as appropriate.
  • Develops, implements and participates in programs to improve patient safety and quality.
  • Collaborates with organization learning department to lead logistics for nursing hospital wide mandatory requirements
  • Supervises the completion of required records of all programs
  • Formulates staffing schedules based on the needs of the department including providing for programs on all shifts
  • Maintain budget in collaboration with VP

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a Master's degree in Nursing required with theoretical background in nursing practice and education.
Demonstrates competency in knowledge of nursing practice.
Demonstrates competency in coordinating and direction of nursing care with commitment to continuous professional development .
A minimum of five years of nursing practice with progressive experience in management and teaching.
Experience with computerized data bases.
Willingness to devote the time required completing assigned tasks on schedule.
Understanding of how clinical applications affect healthcare workflows in a variety of clinical areas.
Analytical and problem solving skills with the ability to plan, coordinate ,implement and complete projects of schedule.

Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Nursing required with theoretical background in nursing practice and education.
NY State RN license
A minimum of five years of nursing practice with progressive experience in management and teaching
Demonstrates competency in knowledge of nursing practice.
Demonstrates competency in coordinating and direction of nursing care with commitment to continuous professional development .
Experience with computerized data bases.
Willingness to devote the time required completing assigned tasks on schedule.
Understanding of how clinical applications affect healthcare workflows in a variety of clinical areas.

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $129,163.53 - $215,272.56 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
