Hiring Range

The University of California, Merced is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience. The salary range the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $75,000 - $82,000/yr.

About the Job

Under the direction of the Associate Registrar, Transfer and Curriculum, the Articulation Officer works closely with the Transfer and Curriculum team on a daily basis, regularly collaborates with colleagues in the Office of the Registrar and maintains strong working partnerships with the Admissions Office. This position uses knowledge and skills as a seasoned, experienced articulation professional with a full understanding of analytical practices and UC policies and procedures; researches analyzes, and develops solutions to a wide range of issues related to the articulation of transfer credit. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with policies, programs, and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops procedures for the implementation of an integrated set of electronic data sources and tools for the display of transfer credit policies, and evaluation of potential transfer credit. Highly involved with the team that posts designated transfer credit to the official student record. Responsible for the input of transfer credit articulation rules to the degree audit system, conforming with the Academic Senate's regulations and the local department, school, and Division's policies for the conference of the bachelor's degree. Oversees the ASSIST.org database for our campus including maintenance of major templates and course-to-course equivalencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Formulates articulation agreements in ASSIST.org for new majors and maintains existing agreements with any updates.
  • Determines and utilizes the best practices for effectiveness and efficiency in maintaining, improving and expanding transfer credit assessment and articulation. Monitors and analyzes changes in external regulations, legislation, and UC policies for impact on the articulation topics for the Campus, not limited to WASC, UC Academic Senate, BOARs.
  • Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the organization in regard to articulation. Coordinates efforts with a variety of external and internal contacts; researches organizational structures, policies, and procedures and summarizes best practices in the field. Is the lead on understanding, implementation, and training on U-Achieve, ASSIST, and TES. Analyze and report trends in UC transfer pathways. Researches and analyzes processes, procedures, policies and organizational structures in order to develop and/or implement changes and to provide consultative services regarding general management to department.
  • Conducts post-implementation analysis to determine the need for further enhancements, finer distinctions and/or additional process/policy components.
  • Acts as a consultant on the integration of data and electronic transcripts with various transfer credit and articulation practices.
  • Acts as the Office liaison at campus and UC System Wide meetings. As a CIAC member, serves as the UC Merced representative for CIAC Region 5, NCIAC and CIAC. Represents UC Merced on articulation related committees and workgroups as required.
  • Performs ad hoc, analytical studies on a wide variety of policies, programs and issues which are complex in nature.
Qualifications

EDUCATION and REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited institution.
  • 5 years of directly related experience.
  • Equivalent of 9 years of combined experience/training and education in lieu of Bachelors Degree.

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Solid verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of academic programs, policies, processes, and operations in a large public research university.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and planning skills.
  • Interpersonal skills.
  • Working knowledge of policies, regulations, and practices with student records services. (Preferred)
  • Problem identification and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships with campus departments.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships with schools, universities, community organizations and other institutions
  • Knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs. (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of specialized registrar core functions (e.g., degree requirements, special enrollment, veterans benefits, residency). (Preferred.)
