As part of HVAC Cooling, SPX Cooling Technologies is a leader in high quality industrial HVAC equipment used to cool large facilities like hospitals, data centers, and power plants. With cooling towers, fans, and refrigeration units, companies rely on brands like Marley, Recold, and SGS to provide comfort and mission critical and industrial cooling solutions.

How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)

SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Senior Designer, you will oversee and mentor less experienced designers to ensure the accurate and timely completion of cooling tower orders. The incumbent will create and review CAD drawings and models, ensuring they align with project requirements, engineering specifications, and regulatory codes while facilitating the progression of orders from sales to fabrication or construction. This role collaborates with vendors, manufacturing teams, and field erectors to resolve material and construction issues, develop installation instructions, and support sales with proposals and aftermarket solutions, all while driving cost efficiency and meeting shipping schedules.

This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)

While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:

  1. Design Review and Training
  • Review work of other designers, providing mentorship and coaching.
  • Train designers on software tools, product details, and SPX specifications.
  • Provide guidance and answer questions for field construction and manufacturing teams.
  1. Documentation & Process Management
  • Oversee drawing creation, bills of material, and engineering change orders.
  • Ensure document control procedures are followed for saving and revising drawings.
  • Verify product model files and configurators align with specifications and availability.
  1. Cross-functional Support
  • Assist suppliers, manufacturing, and construction teams by clarifying documentation and instructions.
  • Review and resolve discrepancies in parts lists and drawings.
  • Primarily support Americas locations, with potential for global assignments.

What we are looking for (Required/Ideal Experience, Skills, Education)

We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:

Required Experience

  • 3+ years of experience.

Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of HVAC and/or cooling towers.
  • Advanced proficiency with CAD tools relevant to assigned products with the ability to apply tools to complex situations and teach others; certain roles may require strong proficiency in 3D modeling.
  • Programming and/or Visual Basic knowledge helpful.
  • Strong proficiency in SAP or other ERP system.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products.
  • Broad knowledge and application of principles, practices, and procedures of a particular field of specialization to the completion of difficult assignments.
  • High success in applying skills to a full range of company projects; extremely versatile in work assignments.
  • Accountability for groups of many types, consistently performing at a high level of productivity and quality.

Education & Certifications

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in drafting or engineering technology, or equivalent experience.

Travel & Working Environment

  • Onsite office environment, Monday - Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period.
  • The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours.
  • Lifting 10-30 pounds.
  • Keyboarding/typing.
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
  • May work outside at times and be exposed to excessive noise, heat, or bad weather.
  • May require working outside of normal work hours.
  • May require occasional travel to jobsites.
