Overview

E2 Consulting Engineers, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electric Service Engineering Support Specialist to support San Diego Gas & Electric's (SDG&E) Electric Service Engineering group. The position involves engineering design, technical support, and coordination of projects related to new customer electric service connections, service upgrades, relocations, and related distribution system improvements across SDG&E's service territory. You will collaborate with SDG&E engineers, designers, construction teams, customers, and external agencies to ensure projects are designed and delivered accurately, safely, and in compliance with all applicable standards and regulations.The successful candidate will report to the distribution engineering manager.



Responsibilities

    Develop and prepare engineering designs, construction drawings, and work order packages for electric service projects, including new business connections, upgrades, relocations, and meter installations.
  • Evaluate customer load requirements and prepare service plans and design criteria in accordance with SDG&E standards and CPUC regulations.
  • Perform site assessments, review customer submittals, and validate service requests to determine project scope and design requirements.
  • Coordinate with municipalities, developers, permitting authorities, and internal SDG&E stakeholders to secure approvals and permits.
  • Prepare bills of material, cost estimates, and labor requirements to support project execution and budgeting.
  • Ensure all designs comply with applicable standards, including GO 95, GO 128, the National Electric Code (NEC), and SDG&E construction specifications.
  • Track project status in SDG&E work management systems, maintain accurate records, and prepare status reports as needed.
  • Provide technical support during construction, respond to field inquiries, and process as-built documentation and revisions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance design quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.


Qualifications

Required

  • Associate or bachelor's degree in engineering, Drafting/Design Technology, Construction Management, or related discipline; or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in electric distribution engineering or service design, preferably in a utility environment.
  • Knowledge of SDG&E design standards, California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) General Orders (GO 95 and GO 128), and related codes.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or comparable design software.
  • Familiarity with load calculation principles, single-line diagrams, and electric service requirements.
  • Ability to interpret and apply engineering standards and project specifications accurately.
  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate with customers, agencies, and internal teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Preferred

  • Experience with SDG&E's Electric Service Design processes and work management platforms (SAP, ArcFM, or related systems).
  • Prior experience working with California utility customers, developers, and public agencies.
  • Knowledge of permitting, right-of-way, and encroachment processes for electric distribution projects.

Pay band:

  • $75,000 - $95,000 Entry-level or Associate Designer
  • $90,000 - $125,000 Experience designers
  • $130,000+ Highly specialized or lead roles with project management duties.

Wage Data Per State Requirements

Salary range for this position is $75,000 - $130,000. The starting salary will be commensurate with skill level, education, experience, and working environment.
