Responsibilities

Sierra Vista Hospital is seeking a Business Office Director for the Business Office Department. If you're passionate about working in the behavioral health setting and have the desire to lead a team of healthcare professionals dedicated to serving our patients, we want to hear from you!

The Sierra Vista Hospital location, a 171-bed psychiatric care facility located in south Sacramento, is a full-service mental health facility and a center of support for patients and their families. Since 1986, we have offered our clinical expertise to those suffering from emotional, behavioral and addiction problems.

The Business Office Director is responsible for the following:

  • Manage business office operations which will achieve the established productivity standards for the department.
  • Assist in establishing policies and procedures as they relate to the financial goals of the facility.
  • Implement and monitor business office procedures and address systematic problems quickly.
  • Review the work quality of all facility employees supplying data to the Business Office and report this quality of data received to the facility's administration.
  • Implement business office procedural guidelines which will facilitate a smooth workflow and accurate follow-up on all activity.
  • Effectively manage the accounts receivable functions for the facility.
  • Maintain a dialog and working knowledge with all third-party payors.
  • Assist case management in the areas of denial tracking, recertification concurrent review and appeal of denials.
  • Active participation in daily census meeting for the purpose of supplying the Census Status Report and other information under the control of the Business Office.
  • Complete and submit the monthly Business Office operations reports as directed.
  • Manage patient account maintenance functions for the facility
  • Review and distribute daily patient account billings.
  • Define and prioritize account follow up activity on problematic accounts.
  • Resolve credit balance accounts.
  • Audit and review all open patient accounts listed on the aging system once a month.
  • Provide guidance to the Admission Clerk/Insurance Verifier with the establishment of payment schedules for patient's families.
  • Manage and develop an effective Business Office staff.
  • Interview applicants for business office positions and obtain appropriate approvals for hiring decisions.
  • Assist in new employee orientation and continuing education for all business office staff.
  • Review work of the department staff and recommend improvements to enhance performance or resolve problem situations.
  • Define the education needs of self and staff and facilitate and/or arrange for training surrounding developmental needs.
  • Review daily all collection reports, taking corrective actions, as necessary.
  • Review daily census and assure all proper information has been obtained.
  • Maintain monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts, providing reports as required.
  • Consult with the Chief Executive Office on department activity, plans, and problem situations.
  • Ensure the effective functioning of all department and front office equipment, and coordinates with appropriate vendors for repairs as needed.
  • Consult with the corporate office on all corporate changes relating to business office operational functions and ensure the development of an effective working relationship with all corporate staff.
  • Ensure that all corporate deadlines are strictly adhered to, contacting the appropriate corporate staff when problems arise.
  • Participate as an active member of the facility's Chart Audit Committee.
  • Function as relief for all Business Office positions as needed.
  • Adhere to facility, department, corporate, personnel and standard policies and procedures.
  • Attend all mandatory facility in-services and staff development activities as scheduled.
  • Support facility-wide quality/performance improvement goals and objectives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.
  • Participate in Healthy Work Environment employee engagement committee.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in business administration or related field preferred, with certification through HFMA or AEPAM (CMPA or CPAM); or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years experience in a multi-faceted business office preferably in a health-care setting, with one (1) year supervisory/management experience preferred.

Additional Requirements: Experience with computers and business software programs, particularly MS Excel and Word.
